I've found that boys seem to be a lot more lovey, girls can be a little you-know-what at times. Neutering is a lot cheaper too. I have two boys left now, and if I ever get another I'll get another boy. I loved my girls but they sure were bossy!

Yeh homie can be evil haha. She loves us but hates one of my friends. For no reason haha. I'm just wondering what would be more compatible for her.. A boy or girl.

I agree about the girl cats --- I adore Angel and Tippy - but Angel has issues with Tippy and they don't like each other at all - female jealousy. Tony (the boy) is absolutey mellow and adores his sisters. They take advantage of him and try to beat him up but he takes it all in stride.

When we adopted Tony, we had BJ (he is our rainbow angel kitty). BJ was around 10 at the time, and we had just lost our little Ali to kidney disease (a girl kitty - who was very independent). Anyway, I thought BJ would be jealous of Tony who was around 5 mos when we got him. The complete opposite - BJ thought we brought him this delightful little gift and he became Tony's "mommy". BJ adored Tony and Tony worshipped BJ. Nobody ever told either of them that BJ was a boy --- but he still played the mommy role.

Hope you have the same reaction when you get the new kitty.

I have had dogs and/or cats all my life.  I used to think girls were more "loving", but have totally changed my mind.  My housemate was a groomer most of her life, as well as a toy poodle breeder.  She told me the boys were more loving and more devoted to their people.....after several years experiencing the difference....I am totally convinced.  They call the girls "bitches" and "queens" for a reason...lol.

Usually older female cats prefer male companions. No female rivalry, etc. But I have noticed that a lot of young males will pick on older females. . .so sometimes that doesn't work so great either :/. It depends on what she'll put up with. If you can get 2 of the kittens, they could play with each other and not bother Homie too much.

Of course any suggestions assume that both cats are fixed.

I think it depends on the individual kitten. I got my female cat, Angel as a kitten. Tiger loves her, Miagi hates her. So it could go either way as kittens are bratty. She just turned 4 last month. She is still a brat but Tiger will put her in her place if she's too much when they are playing. They might bond or it might take awhile for a bond to form. :) Miagi will never like her. And I am ok with that but he would never hurt her.

If she is in his face he will hiss at her to go away or whack her. He doesn't sleep with me any more because Angel is quite the brat and sleeps at my feet. And your cat might be jealous at first. I thought my parents bringing her home would ruin the bond I have with Miagi & Tiger but it didn't thankfully.

It does really depend on the cat but generally females prefer males over other females, as everyone has said, and getting two kittens(if you can afford it/have the time/etc) might be the best plan.  My female cat(now deceased) loved her brothers and bonded quickly(at the age of 10) and easily with a friend's 18 year old female cat(who lived with us for awhile and disliked most cats) so there are exceptions.  All of my family members' females, however, did not take so kindly to female cats but accepted the presence of males.

I never got two kittens when Angel was a kitten. And everything turned out fine. :) Tiger is her buddy.

We actually adopted our kitten for one of our young cats. :) He ended up becoming best friends with both of our younger cats(they both needed this) and gets along great with the older ones(he's gentle and respectful). I had a good idea that he'd be a good fit for our family when I walked up to one of the cat cages at the shelter and, upon seeing other cats, he began to purr happily and was completely relaxed in my arms.
