I've been home sick all week and on antibiotics for a few days so I was starting to feel better today.  My friend figured I could do with getting out of the house, so we went for lunch.

We ended up at Olive Garden.

I'm so pleased that we went. It was by far the best and most memorable restaurant experience that I've had in a very long time. And it was all thanks to our waitress, Lynelle.

She was professional, yet fun.  She was knowledgeable about the menu.  She was attentive without being a pest, and she anticipated our needs IE: drink refills, salad refills etc.  She had the uncanny knack of showing up just when we were about to look around for our waitress.

She had been off work for a few months and had just returned to work a week or two ago.

I'm pretty quick to criticize a bad experience, but I'm also one to give props when I get exceptional service.  So I told her that we go there quite often and that she is by far the best waitress that we've ever encountered there and I told her why.  We asked to speak to her manager so that we could also tell him the same thing.  I also told him that he needs to treat her well, because staff like her are hard to come by. She sincerely appeared to be enjoying her job and it came across in everything she did and said.

We gave her a 25% tip, and plan to ask for her station the next time we go.

Cool!

Good food and excellent service are what make me go back to a restaurant again and again.

That is wonderful!

I have been making an effort to get praise to the good people I come across in stores. My son is attached to this small stuffed raccoon I bought him on a whim.  I'd gotten it in an outlet store so I knew finding a backup one might be impossible.  The store I bought it from didn't have any left so I called another store a little farther away. The woman who took my call was so helpful she knew what I was looking for and took my number because she was going to check with the managers at other stores.  She ended up calling me back about 10 minutes later because she found ONE left in her store.  I was able to go into my local store to pay for it, plus a small shipping fee, and they shipped it to us.  (It was on clearance so it was actually pretty cheap even with the shipping!)  Relieved my mommy-worries!  I sent the company itself an e-mail with her name and telling them how much I appreciate what she did for me.  I got a reply saying that she would be recognized at the next district meeting.

I've also e-mailed Walmart because we have 3 employees at our local store that are just really great.  Especially with my kids.

I did the same thing at the Apple Store recently.  I went with one of my developmentally disabled clients and his mom to upgrade his iPad.  The lady who waited on us took the time to let him show her the communication software and other apps he uses on the iPad, and then worked with him to walk him through the setup for the new iPad.  The process took at least 5 times longer than it would have if she had done it herself....but worked with him very patiently and guided him through the setup.  The boost to his feelings of self confidence was worth a million bucks!!!  I made sure the manager knew what a great job she had done.
