Hi, thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Marley is a 12 pound, 13 year old orange, DSH. A kitten at heart, an absolute love.

At the end of January he became completely blocked with no warning. His regular vets could not pass a catheter and actually caused damage trying to do so and because of necrotic tissue, a PU surgery was presented as the only option.

Post surgery Marley was happy to be home after his 12 day stay but he has a UTI that will not go. We have done 2 full cultures - a different bacteria and antibiotic each time. He has been on Clavamox for 2 weeks, twice daily, amitrityline (1/4 tab) once daily and I have been giving him Urinary Gold for almost 2 weeks - though I just found out that I am underdosing him so I gave him the correct amount for the first time toinght along with Kidney Support.

We also started him on Royal Canin S.O. food tonight to help flush his system.

The vet is worried that he is not responding as he should to treatment even though the bacteria showed sensitivity to Calvamox. We have seen no improvement in 2 weeks and he is dripping pee now, which wasn't happeining when we first got him home.

All advice is so gratefully received. Marley is happy, eating great, purring, playing, but peeing far too often and tiny amounts which cannot be comfortable for him.

Dr., wants to try a bladder/kidney flush under sedation and do a third culture.. I am consulting with a holistic vet in the morning to see if she can advise which of the supplements I can start with.

Thank you all in advance!

I'm so sorry to hear about everything that is going on with Marley.
He is a very lucky guy that he has you who is doing everything possible to try and help him!

I wish I had some advice on all this but it's a little outside my knowledge base. I just wanted to offer some emotional support and tell you that you are doing a great job and doing everything you can. Don't lose sight of that! Also, this will bump your thread up so hopefully more people will see it.

Finally, have you checked out the nutrition section yet? You may want to post over there as well as we have several users who are extremely knowledgeable about supplements, diet, and UTI's. They may be able to provide some good insight on what diet would be best for him and what supplements may really help. You may also want to try a search and see if there are any older threads dealing with a similar issue. I just did a search for "diet, supplements, and UTI" and got some hits that may be worth looking into: http://www.thecatsite.com/newsearch?search=Diet,+Supplements,+and+UTI

I wish you and Marley the best of luck.
Vibes that he starts feeling better soon!

Oh EB24, you are so sweet! Thank you so much for your kind words and the link! There is so much reading to do! I appreciatethe support more than you could know - it was a really rough noght for me (Marley slept like a log!) and it was so nice to find your post this morning! I see the holistic vet at 9:30am so will post later about her suggestions!

It is common to be prone to actual UT infections after PU surgery, although they're usually not so resistant to antibiotics. One thing I would recommend talking to your holistic vet about is D-Mannose. It is a very safe supplement that helps with anti-biotic resistant e.coli and one other strain of bacteria I can never remember.

Anytime.
We are here not just for feline support but for emotional support as well. I don't have experience with this issue exactly as most of my experience has been with younger cats and kittens but I have been through medical trials and tribulations with them and I know just how heartbreaking and draining it is.

I'm sorry you had such a rough night but I hope the appointment with the holistic vet has offered some new insights. And, that you may be able to find some tips over in Nutrition.

Please, let us know what the vet said and keep us posted as to Marley's progress. If you have a picture you can post I would love to see how handsome he is- I have a super soft spot for big, smooshy, orange tabbies!

More vibes for Mr. Marley as you can never have enough of those!
