I'm here, looking around my apartment.. wishing I could rearrange my furniture for a change of scenery.. but with the layout, I don't have a choice but to leave it. I have black furniture with red decorations and rug.. I love the modern look!

My question is.. what's your home decorating taste like? Modern? Contemporary? Any certain color themes?

I always tell people that our house is pretty much Early Ameri-CAT.

I think it's pretty comfortable. A mix of old antique stuff from my grandmother combined with some cosier pieces. In the bedroom, nothing matches. We have a old Pennsylvania House cannonball bed with a non-matching PH bureau (those pieces are decades-old, way before Lazy-Boy bought Pennsylvania House and turned it into Chinese-made junk). My grandmother's old bureau. And a bureau that Rick's dad made for us years and years ago. Same throughout the house...nothing really matches and much of it is fairly old, although we do have a few newer pieces.

Yes, I'm a bit like Winchester... Lots of things from lots of places.  A few antiques, bits from Asia, cottagey things.. and yet it all works.

I spent too long with architects to worry about having a theme, being contemporary or 'keeping up'.  Now it's all about cosy comfort

I'm veeeerrrry slooooowly decorating our house.  I'd love to do it all in one swoop; but I never find all I like at once anyway.  I describe my personal style as elegant country with some things leaning toward the contemporary side but more traditional in others.  I like things comfortable but pretty to look at.  Elegant but not overly ornate.  I don't to "stark" any day of the week.  Our living room furniture is more on the modern side; but with soft lines.  I'm ready to upgrade our couch.  It isn't as comfortable as it used to be!  DH installed chair rail in the living room and kitchen/dining areas a bit over a year ago.  They open to each other so the top half of the rooms is painted in the same sandy brown color.  A warm neutral.  The living room has a darker sage color on the bottom and the kitchen/dining areas have a darker purple.  I love it.  I just got curtains for the living room. They are a dark chocolate brown with some large flowers embroidered on them.  Our wood furniture is a dark cherry or mahogany in both rooms.  The house came with maple cabinetry so the kitchen has that.

I'm working on picking our paint colors for the master bedroom and both bathrooms.  We have no plans to paint yet; but at least they are there.  We don't even have matching furniture for our master bedroom so no rush I guess.  I've got a wish list for that and for both the kid's bedrooms.  I just need a few thousand dollars to put towards it.

Kind of traditional I guess. Our bedroom set was called Italian Provincial when we bought it, but I don't see that phrase anymore. Nothing really modern as I just don't especially care for the straight lines of modern.

Shabby chic/ cottage style with quilts and a few antiques mixed in. I like light colors like cream, very pale pink, white, sage green and robins egg blue. I like raspberry pinks mixed in too for some pop.
