It used to be considered a sign of craziness, but these days talking to yourself is pretty okay. It's called intrapersonal communication and can help keep you focused, give you confidence, think faster, learn better, and even find lost objects more quickly.

Do you talk to yourself? Do you do it to figure things out, fill the silence, or for other reasons?

I give myself pep talks all the time, especially when I'm feeling unwell but have a lot to do! Sometimes I'll tell things to the kitties but I'm really talking to myself. (I do talk to the kitties quite a bit, too, and sing a lot when I'm at home alone.

I do it to figure something out. If someone catches me like my mom or dad. I say I'm talking to the cats.

I will when I'm trying to figure things out, especially if I'm working on a graphic.

I do talk to myself.  I used to say I was talking to the cats; but I'll do it when there isn't even a cat in the room so I guess that doesn't always work for an excuse!  Now when I do it in the grocery store I just say I'm talking to my kids.

I had an uncle who used to say that when he talks to himself he's talking to the smartest person he knows. I've never forgotten that classic comment.

My motto is it is okay to talk to yourself. It might be a problem though if you start to answer. :lol3:

I DO talk to myself to figure things out! Also when I'm concentrating and making a 'list' of things I've got to do. My husband often says he'll see me outside just talking away! I too say I'm talking to the cats (you just can't see them) The only bad thing is the cats never have much to say and aren't a big help! They probably think I'm crazy too!

When I'd catch an old co-worker talking to himself, he'd say that it was the only way he could have an intelligent conversation.

Paul doesn't talk to himself - but he talks to the TV! Always comments on things he sees, even if he's alone in the room and doesn't think I can hear him? Strange????

Oh wow, you should hear my husband yelling at the TV. Hockey season, and now play-offs (oh joy). Sometimes he thumps the chair for emphasis too. Thank goodness he has several buddies to ring up and complain about the hockey to.

As for talking to myself, yeah, I do it all the time. I talk to the cats, dogs, squirrels, plants, myself, whatever. Sometimes my husband will catch me having a little conversation in my head and he calls it "having a JD moment" after the character in Scrubs. My face is an open book so whatever train of thought is going through my mind, there's usually an accompanying range of facial expressions to keep those around me entertained. :)

So does Rick! During football season, he's not the same man I married! Such language! Such goings-on! And he mutters, too, during the game. I stay back in the bedroom....I don't want to know what's going on out in the living room. And the cats stay in the bedroom with me!

It used to be really bad when DS was still at home. Rick is a die-hard PennState fan. DS is a Florida State fan. My brother lives for Notre Dame. Believe me, things could get ugly.
