One of my employees had to take a leave of absence to take care of her brother who suddenly got very sick seemingly over night. The doctors can't seem to find the cause or the cure for these terrible symptoms - a bloated stomach, "smoke" coming out of his mouth, extreme pain all over the body, bloody urine, no appetite or thirst but no fever. The story goes that this guy is a womanizer and his latest victim was a woman who works in the Middle East and was home for the holidays. She has gone back to work but before she left she "cursed" the guy in front of family and friends.

The fellow has been ill for over a week now. His family are trying to contact the woman. Very strange and scary, don't you think?

Personally, I doubt it's some kind of witchcraft. In this age of logic and science, could such thing be possible though?

I have no doubt such things can exist.

It can also happen if a person thinks they've been cursed (the mind is a powerful thing).

In Australian Aboriginal culture cursing someone to die often resulted in the death of the person being cursed. They knew they were cursed and the belief was so entrenched in the culture that it's quite feasible that's what did it.

But I think there are things that science negates that are simply not recognised yet.

As Shakespeare wrote in Hamlet

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

I do hope he gets better soon, Yayi.

I agree with you, Mani. If a person thinks there's something funky going on (a curse), he can convince himself that it's true.....the mind is truly powerful. And I agree that there are things that sciences just hasn't figured out yet, but it doesn't mean those things don't exist.

Sounds to me like the employee has a vivid imagination and just wanted time off of work.

I think it couldd possibly be true because I was cursed once too.

This happened while I was in high school.  The girls in my class were drawing a certain number of ;lines on other people's hands.  After the lines were drawn the person was told they had a certain number of days to draw the same amount of lines on the hands of something like 10 other peiople.  If anyone failed to do what was required, they would die.

So on the last day I had only filled about half the requirement, and that night I started to feel so strange and sick that I thought I really was going to die.  I'm not sure if this feeling was all in my head or if it actually was real.
