Sorry for the duplicate thread... I'm new here and kind of just getting used to the site... I've posted this question on several different websites and still haven't received any definitive answers so I'm panicking :S Posted it about an hour ago on this same site, but in the wrong section. Didn't get any answers yet so let me rephrase :S

My cat gave birth to 5 kittens 10 days ago. They were checked by a vet the day after and deemed healthy. I've read that kittens double their birth weight some time within the first week... Well, these kittens haven't yet, although one is starting to open her eyes. They are all pretty small, ranging in weight from 130 grams - 160 grams. Is this normal or should I be worried? By the way, their father is a British blue crossbreed and their mother is a small white tabby. Both are indoor cats. Does breed have anything to do with size or am I doing something wrong?? Any help/advice would be appreciated.

PS - their mother is booked in for a spay when the kittens are 12 weeks (fingers crossed they make it to that age :'() so no spay lectures, please!

Oh yes... and their mother hardly eats. Is this normal? I'm pretty much out of pocket from buying her so many different foods and she refuses them all. How often should a lactating cat eat???

So you are weighting them, good. Every day%  what are the weights day for day`%   As long as they do rise, preferably 10g or more, practically every  day, is well.

EDIT  these % =  ?,   I dont know where the ? sign is on my reserve-computer.

Mom not eating sounds serious.  If you cant find anything she wants, you must consider to forcefeed.

At first, it is most important to get her going with eating.  So the starter doenst need to be the most nourishing, just tempting for her...

If she looses forces, start her with a little wetted dextrose ]glucose sugar}, or some other sugar...

And as said, she has a rather big litter, she must eat well.  Forcefeed if necessary, it is rather hurry to find some solution...

Another though.  Her refusal may be somehting not well inside.  It may be a question of consulting your vet too...  CAN it be something environmental%%   Like she is feeling stressed out%%

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

ps. These weights you do give, after 10 days, It sounds rather little, if they werent unusually small from the beginning.   So you must also perhaps consider to give them extra bottle, kmr or goat milk if you can get it.

I got this report on PM: "Hello Stefan :) Thank you very much for answering. I just got back from the vet's and everything is OK. The mother cat is well, she's just a fussy eater. Some of the kittens had low weights when they were born and, according to the vet, they are all doing well so far. The vet said that bottle feeding wouldn't be necessary so I'm feeling much better, knowing that everything is all right. Thanks again for the answer, and for welcoming me! ^_^  "

So, keep close watch and work on with feeding her, but  this not an emergency.     Puh.   :)
