I just happened to stumble onto this site as I was advised to add taurine to my female kitty's diet to aid her heart function. She was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy two years ago and takes transdermal Atenelol. The vet that I took her to is a "holistic" one and I like his approach to trying a nutritional approach first. Solange was a rescue and appears to be at least 8 years old (I adopted her in 2010). Any ideas on what brand to try?

Haven't really looked for it separately....but I know this site carries it: http://www.knowwhatyoufeed.com/shop_online.html

You can also feed raw chicken or duck hearts for added taurine.

NOW powder is easy to use and inexpensive. I think it might be the only brand without fillers. If she takes a pill easier than a powder, they have capsules, too. I buy it from Amazon.

No idea on pricing comparison....but the one I posted also has no fillers

100% pure product without silica, magnesium stearate or other excipients. The country of origin is Japan. Certificate of Origin is available upon request.

Huh, I didn't click on that first. They don't say what brand it is. I wondered if it was repackaged NOW but the NOW bottle says "made in the U.S.A." so I guess not. I can't really guage how much is contained in that package, but, yeah, the NOW is probably cheaper: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQSQ68/?tag=&tag=thecatsite

She does not do pills easily, which is why the heart meds are transdermal. I feed her Merrick Before Grain (along with my other kitty who is diet controlled diabetic). I had not thought of feeding her chicken or duck heart - any ideas on where I would find this?

Your local supermarket should have packages of fresh chicken gizzards and hearts. I feed the gizzards, raw, to one of my cats to help with his teeth. He also loves the hearts but gizzards are chewier. Talk to the  butcher behind the meat counter, explain why you only want the hearts. Most of them are nice guys. Then just freeze the extras in packages with 3 or 4 hearts.

I buy Nature's Life 100% taurine powder to make my cats raw food from www.iherb.com. It has no taste, I've tried it. It would mix easily into canned food.

I got the loose powder. I always put a pinch in my yogurt, LOL. I don't even know what it does for humans, but I figured it can't be bad. . .:tongue2:
