Currently, I'm fostering a queen, four kittens from the queen's litter, three from litter A and two from litter B.

Let me tell you my story. I found this queen with four kittens and then I foster them. After that, the children in my area brought another four kittens from Litter A. One of them died after a week or so. And then it suddenly hits me! The mommy could not feed everyone. So, just last night, another two were brought to me and because of this, I'm gonna take them to other rescuers in another district by the end of this week.

The problem is, the mommy always sleeps away from her children. That is after recently I noticed. She always yelling/meowing like screaming when she enter the cage (open cage) to nurse the kittens as if she was in pain. What can I do to help this? At what time does the kittens can eat by their own? Maybe I can give them some food and water to lessen the burden for the mum? Any suggestion.

Yes, 9 kittens is quite a lot...   And she has possibly a beginning mastitis (inflammation in the tits). Or otherwise, they are overused...

If you can give some kittens to another rescuer, good. Otherwise, you must act on your own. By providing them more normal food, or giving them bottle.  Can you get goat milk?  It is much usable, perhaps even better than kitten milk replacement (kmr).   Dont use cow milk. How old are they??

Also mom needs lotsa of good nourishing food, and extra calcium with such a big group.

Goat milk, plain youghurt, cheese, smelt in butter to give more fat, minced meat, are all good as extras for the mom. If salomonella in eggs is no problem in your place, the raw yellow of eggs is very good.  Have it with this goat milk or minced milk...  Wet cat food, dry cat food for kittens is also the food for her...

They usually begin a little with normal food at the end of week 3.    Use shallow plates. Wet food, or minced meat...  You can have a little on your finger and put a little in their mouth. In the beginning they dont know what food is, they will go through the food...

When they eat solid food, you must train them to using litter.

The litter, the sand, make sure it is non clumping litter...

Last, if mom has mastitis, it may get serious. Look at the tits, do they look normal? Or do you see there is some problems with it?  Can you get her to a vet if necessary?

You can have a little good quality olive oil on them tits, helps some.  But if she gets a real inflammation, vet help is necessary, and she cant have the kittens at the tits...

Good luck!

ps. I shall ask a mod to move this your question to the Pregnant and Kitten forums, I think you will get more answers there.  Although most rescuers do also work much with kittens.
