Hello fellow cat-lovers.

I do know, that this might not seem like an appropriate first post, but this is a question of life and death. We need help to save the life of one of our cats - Herby. He needs a P.U. surgery very very urgently and we have exhausted all our finances within the past 3 weeks, unblocking him twice, medicating him, several vet visits etc. He is currently blocking again and we are at the end of our rope.

Please. We don't want to lose him. He's our baby!!!

Share this link with as many people as you can. And please keep Herby in your prayers. Thank you.

From the Mod Team Regarding Pleas for money:

Cats are a huge responsibility. Anyone who thinks otherwise, should not have one in their life. They are dependent on us for everything from providing a place to eat, to also providing vet care.

Anyone who has cats knows that they can and do get ill. Your best defense is to plan for that to happen before it does, and store monies away in preparation.

If you read about a plight of an animal on the internet and your heart is drawn to help. Check out the story thoroughly. Google the vet's name or call Directory Assistance in the city and be sure this is a legitimate claim.

Do not blindly send money into a paypal account no matter how heart-wrenching the story. Instead reach out to the member and ask for the vet's name and phone number, and arrange to send the money there for the specific needs of the cat in question.

If that information cannot be provided- you have your answer. Report the post to a moderator so that it can be removed for not being on the level.

After a night of worrying about Herby, coming back to a first reply post pretty much accusing me of fraud sure hurts. But I do understand. There must be thousand of pleas flying around online. I didn't even consider, that I might not seem credible, but after reading your post I realize, that trusting people asking for help online blindly might not be the best idea.

I have no problem sharing any and all information necessary to prove Herbys case. We are in urgent need of help to save his life and I am not ashamed to use any and all means necessary. We have so far paid for any and all veterinary needs for our four cats by ourselves and out of pocket. Herby even is on a special care plan, for which we pay monthly, but it does NOT cover this surgery. We have spend over $2000 within the past 3 weeks and who knows how much over the past 2 years for vet care for our cats, including Herby. Feel free to call his vet and ask about his condition. The vet does currently not know yet, that he is blocking again, as we are still within a 24 hour window during which we will try everything we personally can, to unblock him ourselves. If he doesn't unblock with our help, we WILL have to take him back to the vet again. Our vet knows, that we are at the end of our financial rope by now. I am updating the info in the fundraiser with everything new that occurs, so feel free to check back for new information on Herbys condition.

We are more than worried, that Herby will have to be put down within the next week, if we can not afford the surgery, as he keeps blocking. Thank you, for considering to help. And helping does not just mean giving money...I would be thankful, if you could just share the fundraiser with as many people as you possibly can!

Please PM me for the vet's contact information.

Here's a pic of our baby after coming home from the first time unblocking him. He had to stay in his crate and have a catheter in for two days, which of course didn't help with the inflammation and swelling of his urinary tract :( (That's my husband in the picture, just setting him down.)

Poor Herby!  I sure hope you can raise the money, or get CareCredit, or borrow it somehow from relatives, or do whatever it takes to get him his surgery
.

I am attaching an article that may have additional help in finding funding for you:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/155462/cant-afford-a-vet-please-read  There are several links within the article that discuss financial aid, etc.  Maybe they will help if you can't raise the money any other way.

BTW, no one was accusing you of fraud, just advising our reading to be cautious.  Every poster asking for financial assistance gets the same posting

Many prayers for you and Herby!   My kitty Big Guy had a scary round with this same condition last summer.   I would suggest three things to try if you have not already:

1) A different antibiotic, whatever he was on, put him on something else.   Amoxicillin seemed to make a big difference for my kitty and the old time ER vet said something about that in particular acted as an anti-inflammatory in the bladder.

2) Buprenex pain reliever, it is expensive I know, but might be worth it for even one day.   It helped Big Guy to relax psychologically (it makes them high) as well as relieved pain and this helped him to go

3) SubQ fluids, helped to dilute his urine - of course would be dangerous if Herby is totally blocked.

Consider too if your kitty is blocked they can unblock him and send him back home with you without incurring the horrible expense of catheterization/hospitalization.    I wish I could have taken that ER vet home - he told me before things got so elaborate in the old days that's what they did with a blocked cat, unblock them and send them home with amoxicillin and most of the time that worked.  I hope things can work out for Herby.
