I have a 1 and a half yr old male bombay cat (whiskers).  I had him neutered a yr ago. Several months ago he fell in love with my 9 yr old dt's stuffed bunny. He drags the bunny into the family room most evenings when we're finally able to sit down together and he humps away in front of an audience. Being mostly a normal family we're having the mostly normal responses, disgust and confusion. We fancied ourselves as 'dog people' until our youngest began praying and begging for a cat, so intro whiskers. To my surprise, I, and the rest of the family adore this cat! He made a place for himself. We all vi for whiskers affection when we're home. He has food, snacks, water (the toilet is still his favorite watering hole regardless of the better options we provide) he has his toys. He is still alone during the day. He's declawed and kept inside. We have a miniature 13 yr old schnauzer he loves, she's indifferent. I went to work feb 18th full time but my husband says he remembers the humping before that. Is this normal?? He does this and we all think this collective ewwwww and banish him to the 4th room (a vacant catch all bedroom). Is this fixable??? a side note..he meows sadly and persistently if i take the bunny away, pitiful. I don't want to take away his toy if I can help it. he doesn't spray or poop where he shouldn't. he's not aggressive, rather he expresses affection. He wakes up before the alarm and wakes us up with morning nose bumps and purring. He's waiting at the door when we get home. He's still a cat and can't help pushing stuff off the coffee table but this cat is a great little guy. So..what about the yucky humping??

I saw something like this on my cat from he double hockey sticks. He said to take and have him checked to see if when he was spayed that they only got one testie or if he has high testosterone levels. Try to find another out let for him other than the toy ur gonna need to take it from him though.i would see if u can find the old episode. I would try different kind of toy for his outlet. Hope this helps.

Yeah, actually it was the most recent episode and is still available to view on Animal Planet online. I believe it was the second story. The cat in the episode tested neg for testosterone, but was discovered he was insecure and the "bonding" shall we say, with the toy was a self soothing act. Since your problem seems to be exactly the same type of thing, you should watch it, Was very good. I love that show.

thanks for your reply! I actually watched that episode. I just didn't get why the toy had to be taken...I think my cat would just focus his attention on another toy. I guess I need to find out what the cost would be to have my cat tested. I was hoping it was much more common than what that episode depicted :)

They took that toy away cause if they allowed him to keep it, he'd just keep using it for the same thing. Introducing a different toy and shape of toy, along with the other things to increase his feeling of security, broke the habit. It is not a very common thing in a male without testosterone. That's what surprised Jaskson. He was SURE at first the cause was related to an incomplete neutering. I agree, your first step should be testing. If it's not hormone related then go for the play therapy and removing that toy. I'd probably remove it either way. Replace it with maybe a large cat nip stuffed toy. Keep us posted.
