Good morning!

I was going through our freezer last night, looking for unsalted butter. My sister was with me and she asked me why I use only butter and not margarine. Well, I like butter. I have soft margarine on hand in the fridge, but for cooking and baking, I only use butter (for cooking, most of the time I use olive oil when I can, but that's another question). On the other hand, my sister won't have butter in her house....it's soft margarine for spreading on bread and Blue Bonnet for baking. So.......

What do you use? Butter or margarine? Or both?

I use the Land o' Lakes butter and olive oil spread. We don't cook or bake but that spread is really good, especially on toast. Hmm, I think I'll go have some toast! :)

We never use margarine just because we've heard it was not good for you. Neither is butter in large amounts, but I digress. We use coconut oil when we can but we eat toast plain or with fruit spread. In times where coconut oil won't do, certain baking recipes and dinners then olive oil or unsalted butter.

The Land O Lakes butter/olive oil spread is really good! My parents use that and I had some at Thanksgiving. Yum!

I use both First margarine in the big tub and sticks of butter in an emergency. My husband only uses Land of Lakes real butter.

We use butter, and preferably that from Ireland, because the cows are allowed to graze and aren't kept cooped up and stuffed with grain.

Did you ever try grapeseed oil? I like to sauté with that.....it can take a higher heat without breaking down. And there's virtually no taste to it, which is good.

I use Land o'Lakes margarine in stick form for cooking  and I Can't Believe it's not Butter in soft tub form for spreading..  I haven't had butter in many years. I know tho that bakers usually do use butter a lot.

Land o lakes butter, Shoprite if I run out of stock and MUST buy butter.  I ended up hitting a sale for 1.99 and some coupons with that so I have a few dozen butter boxes...husband just rolls eyes.

I sometimes crave country crock but not often enough to have it in house.

Butter and olive oil. Can't stand the taste of margarine. I use the whipped butter which has half the fat of the stick type.

I use Smart Balance margarine (supposidly good for you) and Blue Bonnet margarine for most baking. I do use butter for 'special' times, I think it makes things brown a little better.

I used "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" for years and like it, but when we had a meeting with the diabetes dietitian she recommended Smart Balance. Been using it for a few months now and like it a lot!

Yes! We used grapeseed once when we tried frying food. It tasted no different than other fried foods we tasted and I would use it again should we ever decide to fry again. I remember watching a healthier cooking show ( possibly  Jaime Oliver) who said he uses Grapeseed oil for tons of stuff. It is definitely better than vegetable or canola oil.

Oddly enough, coconut oil doesn't really have a taste (but it does smell heavenly). My SO uses it to fry eggs and although you can smell it, you can't taste it.
