:sigh: He had what sounded like a hairball hack this morning. Then he started wretching, and I thought he was going to cough up a hairball. Instead pink bile with a small clot of blood (dark, not bright red) came up. Now - this isn't the "coffee ground" look of when he threw up blood and we discovered he had ulcers and a cancerous mass in his stomach.

I called the vet. Game plan is take him in tomorrow, get full blood work done. That'll be back Saturday, she'll probably call with the results. She wants to see his BUN and whether or not he's anemic. She says these two together should give us a good idea as to whether or not he's got bleeding ulcers or if this is some kind of internal irritation (maybe due to hairballs).

We were planning on getting him a dental - he's needed one. If she wants an ultrasound - and if he's not anemic, and it doesn't seem like he has ulcers based on the blood work, we'll schedule the dental and the ultrasound for the same day. They'll do the ultrasound first, and decide whether or not to give him the dental based on that.

He hasn't been acting off - other than after a few meals the past couple of days he hasn't sat there and groomed, he went to sleep up in the cabinet. This isn't entirely unusual for him. And playing - he hasn't been flipping out and jumping around much the past few days, he just wants to grab at the toy as it nears him. But his appetite has remained normal.

So we'll see.... :cross:

So many purrs and prayers for Lazlo! You've been so supportive of me with Midnight, we're here for you as well.

Sending lots of good vibes your way!

Edited to add, and you've probably already thought of this, but it might be a good idea to have ground only meals until he's cleared by the vet? With the pink emesis and red blood clots I'm inclined to think pharynx or esophagus as possible locations.

Yes, this is what happened in the fall. Then it was pretty clear it was due to a hairball though. I'm hoping that's what it is. :cross:

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
Mega healthy
coming for Lazlo

Now and again when Jack hacks up a furball or food he strains so hard his is tinged with pink. He can't hack once though, he always has to do it twice straight after the first one. It's no wonder

Thank you all SO much for the good thoughts, vibes, and prayers for Laz, and the hugs and support for me. :heart2: :) :hugs:

The vet doesn't think it's bleeding ulcers, let alone the cancer back. :D :D :D She thinks it was just some kind of temporary irritation.

We ran the hematocrit there - his HCT was 39%. (Very, very good!) :D :D :D

Blood work will be in tomorrow, but she'd be very surprised if anything's off, based on how he looked and felt, and our discussion of his recent behavior and what happened when he threw up the pink bile.

He last had an ultrasound in November, and unless something's really off in the numbers tomorrow (knock wood), she doesn't think it's warranted now. :D

I am so glad it is not more than that. I just feel like he is in remission. With Toby, there are the signs where he stopped grooming, his fur got rumpled and he was losing weight.

Still, I know what you feel like, because for the last year my heart has stopped whenever I heard the sound of a cat throwing up, and I would hope and pray that it was not Toby. I will never feel the same when one of my kitties throws up. I will continue to pray that your very special beautiful boy Lazlo has many many days of good health remaining, for he surely deserves them
