We went back to vet today because I'm certain Furryous is/was having seizures. During the vet exam he noted at the moment Furry was totally blind. He is also concerned FIV issues are attacking his central nervous system and could also be showing symptoms of lymphoma. He doubled steroids and changed antibiotic to clindamycin and wants to see improvements within the week. As I was checking out, Furryous was clearly seeing so I called for the tech and he agreed. Since we've been home he has been resting comfortably and eating a little. I'm considering adding probiotic to his food just to help boost things anyway I can. I need suggestions for feeding, like what's best and how to encourage him to eat more, he lost some weight in the last week and idont want that. I gave him some canned pink salmon yesterday and he loved it but I wasn't sure if it was safe for him. I'm also taking him out twice daily on a leash and harness and he perks up so, I will do anything to help his quality of life. I'm encouraged because since being home from vet today he has seemed better, no seizures, he ate a little and he is cuddling and purring in my bed, I even saw him grooming a bit and he hasn't done that in weeks. Any and all support and suggestions are so appreciated. ?.

Glad to hear that Furryous is doing better after the vet visit. I am a little confused though about the diagnosis. So he is FIV positive? Has he always been so or is this a new diagnosis? What made the vet think lymphoma and is he suggesting any further diagnostics and treatment? The vet also said he was completely blind, but he's not? So was it a temporary blindness caused by something or a misdiagnosis? There seems to be a lot going on here. Maybe there's another thread on Furryous that I missed?

The best species appropriate diet is one high in animal protein, low in carbs. Wet is better than dry. A good site to compare cat foods is www.catinfo.org.

Vball, Furryous tested Fiv+ a little over a month ago when he was being treated for weightloss and a horrible mouth infection. He seems to have been fighting one thing or another. He has been preferring to walk close to walls, hiding behind the couch or dark corners, his heaf eould lean and we would even head down. The vet treated thinking it was maybe an inner ear infection. Then he started having seizures. The blindness was news to me, found on our most recent weekly visit to the vet, (he had no response to moving objects or light but while checking out in the office he started "looking" around and following my hand. I even had the vet t3ch confirm he was seeing) and he has only done that once at home. Since the increase of steroids every 12 hours and adding clindamycin every 12 hours, and over the counter motion sickness med once a day, he is more in balance. Sometimes he will walk slowly and still prefers hanging out in a box we made a bed or in our bathroom, he isn't eating quite normal yet. We feed him small amounts 4-6 times a day and usually have to talk to him and encourage him to eat it . The past 24 hours have been wonderful. Furryous has been begging to go outside. I have been using a harness to give him some supervised time, he totally refused to move the 1st few times but he has decided to take what he can get and actually walks around now. The vet said his thinking the odd behavior, seizures, an at the time, blindness, led him to be concerned that we were dealing with lymphoma or some type of cancer. My head was reeling from the blindness, continued decline, lack of sleep, and everything, I can't recall his exact words but he described it in saying "it's not like a tumor but like a powder that will cause thickening of whatever it is attacking,"

I understand now. Many vibes for Furryous to continue to feel better.

As for diet, a species-appropriate diet of wet, meaty food is best regardless of health issues. If he's struggling with inappetance I would use whatever "toppers" he likes to encourage him to eat. So feed him a high animal protein/low carb canned food and sprinkle the canned salmon or tuna water or whatever else he likes to encourage him to eat. You might want to look into treats like dried bonito flakes or dried meat only snacks that many here use as toppers. Just crush and sprinkle on top of the food.

If you want some brand suggestions, I like Tiki Cat, Hound & Gatos, Nature's Variety Instinct (pick out the peas and carrots).
