So, my foster cat Princess had one kitten on the 19th. He was 4.4 oz at birth. He is now 7.7 oz. or 125g and now 222g.

He gained well the first couple days but seems to be plateauing. Momma had tons of milk come in prior to birth.

My worry is that with only him suckling...will her milk production be too low?

Has anyone had a singleton or heard of any problems?

He has not gained in the last 24 hours..stayed the same. I can get a bead of milk from some teats and none from others.

I'll be watching closely...

He still hasn't really gained :( He looks chubby and is alert and responsive. I can squeeze milk out and momma is attentive. He just doesn't seem to stay latched on. He ends up spending alot of energy crawling around looking even when I direct him to a nipple.

I don't want to intervene unless he is at serious risk because I don't want him to get nipple confusion or have her milk production go down.

I have the worst luck.

Thank you Abby's Mom...still the same weight. I have gone in every few hours and made sure he's latched on. I have no idea why he's not gaining. He looks fine..and acts fine. His eyes are just beginning to open. Mom is attentive and I've seen her stimulate him and clean him. If he squeeks even a bit..she's on high alert.

He seems to know when I come in and loves attention. I know it seems like he's to young but he hears my voice and searches for me. Rolls around enjoying scratches. Content when I hold him and give him a trillion kisses.

He does seem to have one nipple he sucks on. Which I think is ok...

Grab some clear pedialyte from cvs or walmart...it will help keep his electrolytes up and keeps him hydrated in other ways then milk...my kit is gaining but minimally unlike the porky two other kits...i went to the vet.and got strongid T for mama (now) and babies (@2lbs) but administering it to roxy makes it so itll go thru the milk and affect them, only slightly. But this i believe is my prob. I havent been doing on going worms treatments so i think maybe my one girls beingreally affected by it! Otherwise try pedialyte in a syringe and slow as possible on side of mouth!!! You do not wnat them to aspirate. Hope this helps

Maybe because he gained SO MUCH initially his appetite is just slowing down after he realizes he doesn't have to fight anyone at the milk bar? Fingers crossed he starts gaining again and all is well!

I'm feeling a bit better about Pax. He was 225g today which is barely a gain but he's acting fine. He looks so chubby! So, I'm just going to relax and keep an eye on him. His eyes are almost open. I'll take some pics tomorrow...
