So, my friend posted on FB that they found a kitten in a chip bag that someone had thrown in a river by our house.  I volunteered to take her in as she is deathly allergic.  I am guessing she is about 2 weeks old and we have decided to name her Luna.  She took to the bottle and KMR phenomenally!!!  Ate about half a tablespoon and then cuddled up in her box and passed out.  My question is do I need to keep her warm like with a heating pad??  I have one on medium under her little basket, but I wanna make sure she stays warm and happy.  Poor baby.  I cant imagine someone doing this to a poor little baby!!  She is such a doll!!  <3

Make that a whole tablespoon now!!  Poor hungry thing!  I have no idea how long she was away from mom, but she is eliminating so I cant imagine it was too long!

Oh the precious little baby! :vibes::vibes::vibes: Luna

The danger with heating pads is if she should pee, and it got wet, electrocution could result. Your lap is a nice warm safe nest. Or if you have a hot water bottle handy, wrap it in a soft fleece blankie, and stick a wind up alarm clock if you have one, in the bed too, to imitate the momma's heart beat. (make sure the alarm function is turned off!)

Hurray for your friend for finding and saving the precious little soul.

I would say 2 weeks as well...is he walking well yet or still unsteady?

I would keep the heating pad on low and make sure it has blankets on top. Warm is good...cooked is not ;)

Don't be afraid to give him as much KMR as he will take. It's amazing how much they do eat even though they are so small. I would say at least 15ml a feeding but probably closer to 25ml every 3 hours.

More importantly...are you stimulating him? Use toilet paper or soft paper towel and dampen in warm water, pat his privates to stimulate him to pee and poop. Like a gentle massage..normally the momma likes them. It is really important to do this before and after every feeding.

Also, if you have kitchen scales, weigh him and keep track by weighing twice a day.

Then you'll know if he's getting enough food.

Thank you for rescuing this little munchkin!!!

I had to raise a kitten one time. I just remember, you had to feed them every 2 hours, and wipe their butt like mama would until they can start pooping on their own. It's like taking care of a newborn baby, and so rewarding when they get older! I took in a kitten that these people killed the siblings by feeding cows milk and like a baby! Never feed the kitten like you would a baby, tummy down feeding is the way. As if they were eating a nipple. :)

So, she has made it through the night.  She ate great again, and yes she is being stimulated so she can pee!!  No poop yet but we will keep our eyes out for one!!!  We need to get a scale still as her arrival was a little bit unexpected!  Our big fat boy cat spent all night mewing at the door because he was jealous she got to sleep in the warm box :/  lol  I had to evict him out of it more than once.  Found out she is poly dactyl!! So she just keeps getting more and more special!! Right now she is cuddled up in her day basket in her blanket our 3 year old donated to her.  She is super sweet, and has taken a liking to my fiance.

Here is fatass (pronounced faaa tas  long a sound lol  its "fancy")  in the box

And little baby cuddled up with daddy last night before she went in her warm box for the night!!!

She is super special to us.  <3

What a sweetheart! I can't imagine anyone doing that either to such an innocent baby. It sounds like you are smitten, but how can you not be? Bless you for taking her in, lots of luck in the future!

What a precious little baby! Bless you for taking her in and giving her such good care. It takes a truly awful person to do such a thing. I had to rescue my Scooter from being flushed down a toilet when he was not much older than your little one. I am happy to say he is now 10 years old and thriving, happy kitty.

So little Luna has had her first few poops!!!  Hooorayyy!!!

However, I find it is impossible to clean her bum!!

I have used baby wipes, cotton balls, wet washcloths

I end up every time washing her bum in the sink with some soap and drying her, and she does not love it!!

Any suggestions or magic advice?!

I think most people have the best success with a warm wet washcloth. Hopefully soon she will start doing it herself!

UPDATE

Little Luna is doing well.  She has a bit of orange/yellow runny bm not sure if this is normal or not because she is bottle fed.  I know human baby poop changes from breastmilk to formula!!  LOL

She also looks soooo much more alert now!  She watches me walking around the house from her little basket in the living room and keeps a keen eye on our kiddos!!

What a darling baby. She'll have the big cats on their toes in no time. How's it going washing her bum? She probably has worms, too, but I don't know if it's safe to treat them yet. Vet will know.

I have not seen any yet but I am almost certain she will have them.  how could she not.  I dot know if they were ferral or not  :(

Her bum is still yuck so every time she gets gross I just stick her under the faucet and wash her up.  She doesn't love it but I have a 5 month old and a 2 year old and cant risk picking her up with that on my hands.  So i just make sure she is really clean!

She has been driving me nuts today now she really knows what the bottle is and she freaks out with her paws when she tries to latch on to it!  Other than that were working through it!   I will try and get another picture tomorrow!  She is such a sweet baby.  Spends her evenings curled up in daddy's arms  :)

Luna is getting bigger by the day.  She has been freaking out at the bottle, and the other day she tried to snag a piece of chicken off my plate!!  I decided to get some wet food for her and she LOVED it!!  She ate some of it and I cut the KMR by half so she was not over eating but still getting the fluid intake!!  She is getting so big!!  Still wont go potty without stim.  I have only been stiming her IN the cat box now though and raking her paws in it, so I am hoping any day now!!!

Here are two pics for tonight!  She is very quickly outgrowing her little day basket!!

p.s. her fur on her tummy looks funny because she was dribbling milk and making a mess and I had yet to clean her up!!!
