I take a private transportation service to work. Yesterday on the way home I was picked up in a van.  We stopped and picked up another person and he was sitting next to me. I was trying to read my eReader, and he was the chatty kind, and was constantly turning towards me to either talk to me, or to the driver in the front.

His breath not only made my eyes water, but I also started to feel like I was going to throw up. It smelled so much like rancid poop!  I offered him a breath mint and he declined. I offered it a second time, and again he declined.

So I was put in the position of having to tell this guy that he had seriously bad breath, and to take the darn mint!

Moral of this story is that if someone offers you a mint, take it, because it's likely being offered for a reason.

What did he say when you told him that?

I always have peppermint BreathSavers on hand at work....you just never know when they're going to be needed. My boss will come into my office right before a meeting and grab one....just in case.

And there have been times when I've had to offer a mint to somebody who was meeting with me.

I always carry wintergreen Ice Breakers with me.  I use them myself and offer them to anyone that looks interested.

I always wonder about that if someone offers me a stick of gum or a tic-tac. I won't eat artificial sweeteners so I have to decline, but I might back off talking to them at that point.
Sometimes, though, people offer just to be polite if they are having some gum or a mint themselves.

That's usually to only those that they know.  At least I don't typically go around offering breath fresheners to strangers.

They guy took the mint by the way.  Good thing too because my next comment to him would have been to tell him what his breath actually smelled like... rancid poop.  lol
