Is there any friends and family that can help lend you money? You can always try a shelter too to see if they have spare food.

From the Mod Team Regarding Pleas for money or financial support:

Cats are a huge responsibility. Anyone who thinks otherwise, should not have one in their life. They are dependent on us for everything from providing a place to eat, to also providing vet care.

If you read about a plight of an animal on the internet and your heart is drawn to help, please check out the story thoroughly. Find out the vet's name, if there is one, or call Directory Assistance in the city and be sure this is a legitimate claim.

Do not blindly send money into a paypal account, no matter how heart-wrenching the story. Instead reach out to the member and ask for the vet's name and phone number, and arrange to send the money there for the specific needs of the cat in question.

If that information cannot be provided- you have your answer. Report the post to a moderator so that it can be removed for not being on the level.

I have to second what Draco mentioned, about asking friends and family for a loan for cat supplies. Or go to your local shelter for help. I am truly sorry that you're in this position.

Try posting an ad on craigslist.   If you have nothing you need help now not a few days from now when stuff would arrive.

AW hun. :hugs: My daughter works at Petco as a manager. They toss out food ALL the time that is just about to expire. Sometimes the food they are tossing is still good for another month according to the expiration date. And, even then, I think it would still be good for another month or two. It is just a thought because I used to get food from her to feed my feral cats!! I would go to one of the local pet stores and plea your case. Although, not sure they would do that because of a liability issue. :sigh: OH I mean the canned food - because I think that would be safer to feed after the expiration than dry. All my best to you and your kitty. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Wow my petcos sell food alot closer.  I have gotten bags that were days away for 50 or 75 off.  I have used both a bit after date.   As long as no bugs/bag is intact for dry and as long as can was stored ok since I bought it and not bulging.  Stored canned tends to weeken and good or not the seal will break if to many are stacked.

Also ask the adoption centers within the stores.  They often have a guide of what is ok brads to feed thieir fosters and will give away a bag or two to a person.  This seems to be alot more common with the no kill foster home rescues then the shelter.

Check with all the local shelters to see if they have a pet food bank provision. Ask anybody you know who has a cat if you can "borrow" some food or supplies. If you have a dollar + tax, go to the "everything's a dollar" store and get one of their small bags (it's terrible quality but better than nothing). Since it's a group home, ask everybody else there if they'll donate some of their cigarette/soda money (I know a lady who lives in a group home, so I know they're given a few dollars a week for "luxuries") for kitty food.

If this is a long-term thing, I don't think you can depend on donations from strangers :(. Maybe an animal-loving relative would be willing to subsidize your kitty.

I recently lost my job, & a friend found, & told me about pet food stamps. I had never heard of it, so i googled it, & applied. I doubt I will be able to use it, because Angel has to be on Rx food now, but here it is. Google it & apply. "Good luck!!"

Try the pet food stamps. . .they ship it right to your house. It wouldn't be immediate, though. There must be someone who does the shopping, so they should be willing to buy a small bag of cat food for you if you can come up with a couple dollars.

Yes, I agree. That would be the quickest way, until anything else kicks in. If you can call the pet stores, & ask if they have any cat food getting ready to expire, that they are going to toss,

Explain your situation  (to a manager) & maybe they can put it aside for you, & who ever shops for you, or a friend or family member can pick it up for you.
