Hi all, so yet again I heard a brief noise of cat fighting at 2am.   Last time was two weeks ago.  And two weeks ago someone, probably Hercules the one feral I feed also sprayed on my front door!   I TNR'd him back in December - he was a fully grown tom by then.  I haven't seen any other cat for a few weeks, so I think he drives off the interloper.  So I wonder will he remain this territorial with a tendency to spray for the rest of his life?  .    If I do find him a barn to relocate to will he fight with the other barn cats?   If I socialize him in my apartment will he fight my indoor kitties and spray???   Worry worry worry

I can only answer some of your questions:  the later a neuter takes place, the more likely he is to spray post-neuter.  It's a habit.

He could remain territorial, especially if he thinks (however illogically) there won't be enough food for him.

Regarding whether he would spray indoors or with the other barn cats, hard to say; obviously it would be more noticeable indoors than out.

It will be lesser of everything, but it may still be quite some. Hey, I see neigbours spayed females, one defend her territory as vigorously as ever, and I saw the other neigbours female spraying upon our Rhubarber(sp?) bushes...   Can the females so can certainly a male ex tom too.

But it may be he will be less so when well inside, as it is not his own territory, but someone elses, where he must please himself in, and earn other cats and peoples trust.

Thanks Ritz and Stefan!   Ritz yes he is very concerned about his food as well, any extra food and he takes time to kick dirt into the food bowl and covers it up.  Sometimes an amazing amount of dirt - like a cup of it.   I'm not sure this guy would ever want to be part of a feral colony, he doesn't want to share!    Stefan, that's good to know if he felt he was in someone else's territory he might shape up some.    I am still quite torn over what to do with him and moving in a couple months.
