My sweet 10 month old kitten pees outside her box.  She urinates behind a chair in the living room and in corners and under my bed. I thought the box was clean enough.  I do not think it is a behavior problem. I have never disciplined her.  I think it may be an urinary tract infection.   She did have a stomach infection one time. What would you do?      What is good to remove the old urine stains and smell?

Take her to the vet ASAP. A UTI can be very serious.  The only way to get rid of the smell (so even she can't smell it) is to use an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle. Are the stains on carpet?

We use Nature's Miracle but if you search I know that there are other brands that people here like also. If she is urinating outside the box for an unknown reason and you suspect a UTI you should take her to the vet.

Is she your only cat? Do you have at least 2 litter boxes? They recommend one more box than you have cats. So 2 boxes for 1 cat, 3 boxes for 2 cats ect. Also some cats don't like to pee and poop in the same box. Or they don't want to use a box that has already been used, so if it has poop in it, they will go pee elsewhere.

UTIs can affect the kidneys if left untreated. You need to get to the vet and soon in order to get the situation under control.

If you are feeding dry food, switch to wet. Dry food is the culprit in the majority of UTI cases, as well as other afflictions.

I cannot get her to the vet until after the weekend.  Would that be too late?  My brother has to take her.   I am sure there are stains on the carpet.  They are hard to see.

I wouldn't wait. If your cat is male you need to take them right away--in other words, make the time. An untreated UTI in a male cat can be literally deadly.

Agree with Raintyger:  With a female cat you have a *little* more time, survival wise; but meanwhile she could be developing an aversion to the litter box even after successful treatment of the UTI if the peeing outside the box had become a habit.

There are no reliable home remedies for a UTI.  I'd watch her when she/he goes to the bathroom if possible, that can also be somewhat diagnostic.

I am taking her to the vet for a urinalysis this Saturday.  I just hope she will use the litter box again.  I did buy a new box.

My kitten does not have a uti. She will get xrays for stones though.   Can you only use Cat Attract for the Cat Attract litter? My brother bought newspaper and the pine kinds to try. She poops outside the box too.

She might be one of those cats who needs two boxes - one for pee and one for poop. It also sounds like she doesn't care for the litter itself. Keep trying. You may have to buy a black light to find the pee stains so you can thoroughly clean them.

Good luck!
