this is our lovely max francis theodosius. he's about 8 months old and has been with us for 3 weeks now. we experienced a pet parent's worst nightmare about 6 weeks ago when our beloved 3-yr-old, theo, had a heart attack at home and collapsed. it was an absolutely horrific and traumatizing experience attempting to get him to the vet (we don't have a car), trying CPR, and then having a human ambulance called for us but refuse to take us. car services also turned us away. it's been a slow and painful recovery, but we said that we'd most assuredly invite a new kitty into our home when the time was right, and we'd know when that time was.
about a month ago, i felt compelled to look at petfinder.com. i'm not a religious person, but i swear it was mr. theo telling me that someone was waiting for us
i saw mr. max's picture and knew he was The One. hubby and i both felt it was too soon (we'd wanted to wait until mid-may at least), but there was something about max that drew us, so we took the leap. hubby met him to make sure he was a good fit, and we welcomed him home 3 weeks ago tomorrow!
his given name from foster care was max, and since we'd been referring to him as max, we decided to keep it, adding francis (for st. francis) and theodosius (for our theo(dosius)). he's been a blessing. it's so much fun to have a tiny guy around, with all his funny kitten activities.
he's still recovering from a slight URI (developed post-foster and -neuter) and has a strange scab on his paw, but we're going back to the vet for a follow-up tonight. i wish we'd been able to adopt a pair of kittens, but our landlord won't let us. someday maxy will have loads of buddies, though!
we certainly can't replace theo, but max is a wonderful addition to our family, and i'm convinced theo chose max as his successor because he knew mama and papa had SO MUCH love to give!
