I know this is on here some where, but I'm new and this is a little..overwhelming all this information.

We have 5 cats, all fixed :p
Basically it's a free for all for food-trying to feed them all separately and monitor how much each one eats is..well con fussing. "
My cats are at my moms house, as I can't have pets where I currently live.

once I move to a new place, I'm going to be bring "my" two cats with me Which is my Himalayan male (3) and my dom. short hair female (6 or 7)  I want to feed all my cats better, and educate myself on whats the best to feed, how much, etc?

anyone care to help me in my quest to better our lives??

There are lots of opinions on what is best to feed kitties, but generally most agree that cats are obligate carnivores with a low thirst drive. This is why a wet diet is better for them than dry kibble. Some vets still recommend dry kibble due to supposed teeth cleaning, but it seems that the opposite is true.

Here's a good resource for feline nutrition and health: www.catinfo.org.

There's lots of opinions - and controversy - over what to feed. The link to catinfo.org is a good place to start. At minimum, feed wet cat food, and consider raw feeding.

Hi Macenaxislove! :wavey: I think it's great you want to feed a more nutritionally sound diet to your cats. The link to catinfo posted already will be a big help in educating you on different diets etc. The raw forum here on TCS is at http://www.thecatsite.com/f/65/raw-feeding-for-cats if you want information on a raw diet.

All 4 of my cats are on a 90% wet to a 10% dry kibble diet. I give them the 10% kibble for them to graze on in between their wet meals. It is the general concensus among most people that a wet diet is the best diet for your cat. It helps keep them hydrated as cats are not genetically wired to acquire their water intake from a watering bowl. They are wired to get the majority of their moisture from "prey". Since cats have been domesticated, many, many cats do quite well on an all kibble diet if they drink enough water.

What I do with mine is I feed 2 wet meals a day, Usually Nutro Natural Choice wet foods (all of them are grain free) are what is fed at wet meal times. Sometimes I'll buy other premium brands for a variety of flavors and textures. I measure their kibble into 3 separate feedings and use a automatic feeder to dispense it out 3 times daily, in between the wet meals. This works very well for me and there is no free feeding.

If feeding an all wet diet is not in the budget, I would suggest finding the most nutrient dense kibble that your budget can allow. Keep us posted on your progress and let us know if we can help!
