Hi, two weeks ago, I rescued a kitten that is now 8 weeks old. When I first got the kitten, now named Bunny, he was full of life and he ran right up to me. He played a lot. He had a sister with him, so I grabbed her too. Recently I noticed that he was having seizure type fits. He will run in circles, cry, hold his tongue out, all the symptoms say seizures. His sister is completely fine. I took him to the vet this morning and they treated him for roundworms and a cold. I feed him canned kitten food and last night and earlier today, about 30 minutes after he ate he had a seizure. My vet didn't really treat him for the seizures. He's acting extremely tired and sluggish and won't move around very much at all, to use the bathroom or anything. I had to pick him up and put him by his food bowl. I don't know what's wrong with him and it really bothers me. Nothing on the internet is very helpful either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, thank you for rescuing these kitties.

The behavior you are describing does not sound like seizures to me. Did you describe the behavior to the vet? What did he/she say? The lethargic behavior I would attribute to his URI and the meds. Do you know what meds were given?

He urinates hisself when he has a fit, also. Sometimes he will be asleep and just wake up into one of these fits. The meds were given today, so I know they weren't the cause for it. He's been doing this before the meds. I described it exactly as I see it, but still she gave me no help for it. I'm scared to feed him because I don't want it to trigger a fit. It's like he's unconscious when he has these fits and just runs and screams and cries. Hopefully you're right though. The vet said she just wants to cure him of his infection first and then look into it further. The fits are random, though, like for no apparent reason. I'm so clueless as to what it can be.

If it's consistently happening after he eats, I would definitely look at the food. Which canned food are you feeding? Do you have another brand to try?

Used to, it wasn't every time he ate. But a few times recently it has been around after he eats. I'm watching him very closely right now, I just fed him around 5 minutes ago. For example, yesterday night around this time, he ate and had one.. but around 6 AM this morning, he didn't eat, he was just asleep and woke himself up having a fit. I've been feeding him canned kitten fancy feast, because that's the only kitten food I can find and they refuse to eat hard kitten food. I've tried Friskies also, and got the same results, randomness.

I'm assuming they're both eating the same food? Maybe he's having some severe allergic reaction to one of the ingredients? I would definitely watch him carefully, and if he does have a fit, try to video it if you can.

They are. Callie is up running around, playing with her toys, being a typical kitten. I have a chihuahua who thinks that she is their mother, and she worries over Bunny also. Currently, he's okay. His fits are usually short though, not long at all sometimes lasting less than a minute, so it's difficult to get a video, but I will try.

My first thought was epilepsy, although that is very rare in cats.  At this point I would do as the Vet says, though, and take care of that cold first, then work on this issue.  Poor little guy.  Hopefully this is something he will grow out of

I took Bunny to a new vet and they're a lot more helpful. They're running all kinds of tests to find out what it is and have given me a steroid to give him to help with it. Tomorrow he's probably going to get a blood test done. He's more active today and seizures are less, but still there. I do believe his URI is going away, so that's helping him feel better.

Are they testing him for toxoplasmosis?  That can cause tremors and mild seizures in cats with active infections.  It isn't terribly common, but since Bunny is an off the street rescue it is a possibility.

Bunny passed away night before last, he had one last seizure then passed. We still don't know the cause. :/

I am so very sorry for your loss. Poor kitty to die so young. I know it's not a consolation, but you did everything you could for him. RIP Bunny.

I am so sorry to read this outcome. I will lock this thread now and if you would like to make a little tribute to Bunny to post on the Bridge Forum then I am sure people would respond.
