I think it's a positive sign that she came out when you called her. The almost eating tuna is too. It's like she's hungry, but nausea or something is causing her to not eat. It is a vicious cycle that if they stop eating for whatever reason, it's hard to get them to start again sometimes. That's why sometimes the syringe feeding works. I've also put a little food on her nose or mouth so that she will have to lick it off and taste it. Sometimes that will trigger something.

There are some threads here about giving subq fluids. I think warming the fluids first helps. I also think I read that it really doesn't hurt them much at all if done correctly. So try to stay calm and know that you are helping her.

The Vet has never suggested syringe feeding. I did bring home fluids on Monday to do ourselves which my husband & I are a very nervous to do. What food do you feed with the syringe and is it too late since it been this long??
Syringe feed her Hills A/D from the vet - the canned. It is perfect consistency for syringing and is packed with nutrients for ailing pets. I have this on hand in my home as a back up. I am sending all the vibes I can muster for your Sassy. You are certainly doing all you can. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Don't throw the opened cans out right away.  Put the food in a plastic container in the refrigerator in case she does decide she is hungry and will eat it.  ;-)

If she is nauseous, she may lean down to eat and then feel sick and walk away.  Elevate her food/water bowls a few inches to help with the sick feeling.  An old phone book or something similar might work.

I just went & bought baby food, chicken stage 1 and beef. Will be trying shortly but not optimistic. Also tried tuna earlier & NO luck! She actually put her face over the tuna and got close as if was going to eat then walked away. That what did yesterday as well. I spoke to the original Vet who treated her on the initial emergency visit and just filled her in with what going on. She suggested seeing the the internal medicine specialist there and I would spend like 2 hrs with her & she also can do an ultrasound. This may be my best choice since time is critical at this point.
I forgot to ask if you can get the A/D from your vet.  I was able to get this from my vet with no questions, as the vet knew my cat was not eating well.  If  you have no luck with other food, I would ask if you can get this from your vet.

Warming the fluids helps a lot! Fill your sink with hot water, then prop the bag in there (leave drip chamber and tubing out if water). When the bag feels warm (not hot), run the cool water and air out of the line. When poking her with a needle, do it kinda fast and confident. Slow injections hurt! Then cuddle and talk to her as you give fluids.

Best of luck!

I think I need to let go!!! I am sitting here crying hysterically! I am now seeing her hind legs aren't right. Afraid kidney failure? Blood clot? She wont eat! I dont know if it best to wait & let my 11 year old to say good bye or do while she in school. BOTH will be so hard on my poor baby!! I dont know what tomorrow will bring if I waited. I cant do this myself or go!

If your Sassy is in any pain at all, I would take her to the vet and not make her wait.  If she has a blood clot, they are very painful.

If it is time to let go, have you checked to see if your vet can do in-home euthenasia so Sassy can leave you from her home instead of making a trip back to the vet?

Is she perhaps just weak from not eating?  Were you able to get her to eat any food via syringe?  Did you get in to see the specialist?

Is she still using the litterbox?  Responding to you?  Breathing okay?

Well she certainly does not appear to be in pain. No crying. She did use litterbox on own this morning. She is responding to me. Just laying down. I am wondering if weak from not eating as well. I tried some food via syringe and she really resisted. My husband just feels at this point internal specialist cant fix this and not worth it. If we can wait until Saturday and keep her comfortable that be best unless of course I saw her suffering. My daughter has her 1st school dance tomorrow night & would break my heart to take away from her happy moment.

If you feel that it is time for Sassy to leave you and she is not comfortable any longer, I would not make her wait until Saturday. Without food, she will deteriorate quickly.

If it IS time for Sassy to leave, you could tell your daughter Sassy is at the vet for the next couple of days, and explain later that she crossed the bridge while away.

I wish it was easier to know when the time is right to fight and to help them go.

There are people on here with experience syringe feeding. The first few times it is normal for them to resist. They do not understand you are trying to help them. You still have not found the underlying cause of her trouble. She really needs to eat if she has any chance of getting better.

{{{Hugs}}} to you.

I know & thank you!!!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to post. I have been keeping Sassy is my daughter room all this time and she was content in there. Today was the first time she went to the door & wanted out into rest of the house. That was when I observed her hind legs. Also yesterday I posted about color of her paw pads turning lighter almost white. What is strange is after I see her walk they go back to normal color of darker pink. is it cause she has pretty much laid down all this time and not moving around much?

The color of her paw pads changing is likely due to circulation.  When she gets up and moves about, the blood is likely circulating better than when she is resting.

You mentioned yesterday that her hind legs did not seem to be working very well.  I am wondering if this is due to lack of food/strength or if it is a sign of what is wrong with her?

Any chance the internal specialist could do a phone consult with you?  Maybe describing what you are seeing along with what has already been done would give the specialist some direction?

Update: Just got back from a tech visit only at Vet to administer fluids. Husband & I just could NOT do it last night!! Anyway her temp has gone down and now normal for 1st time in 12 days. STILL doesnt mean out of the woods. Now what is concerning is her walk. The hind legs to which appears as a crooked walk which she doesnt do that long. After this newest situation, I am pretty sure the end is here! So many reasons for leg weakness and I afraid kidney failure or something else that serious. Guess it is is pointing to what the Vet told me 1 week ago... this is a battle cant win. ;(

Not necessarily a bad update. Fever down, fluids administered. Now just need to get her some nourishment.

Did you have the vet tech syringe feed her while you were there? They maybe know of a few tricks to get it to work.
