Are they getting enough water?

We've used dry Wellness Core for a while now. Last week we ended up having to take our male cat into the emergency vet clinic in the middle of the night because he was very lethargic and meowing in pain. Turned out he had a UTI, they were able to get the blockage out and run an IV for him. He had to stay for 3 days. He is back home now and resting. We did a lot of research and decided to switch to an all wet-food diet. He is getting the Wellness Core cat food now. We're slowly adjusting him over to it, along with my other cat. So we still have a small amount of dry food out but I have been feeding both cats 3-4 times a day to build them up to being used to eating all wet food. He is about 9lbs and ate almost about 3/4 of a can yesterday which I thought was good considering he is still recovering.

We also decided to switch to one of those water fountains. Before this, they had water in one of those reservoirs and I would fill it 2-3 times a week. When we first introduced the fountain, my female cat didn't seem to be drinking from it. I added a dish of water next to it so that there is always that as an option it doesn't seem like either of them is drinking much from either dish (or at all that I have seen). My husband says it's probably fine because they are getting the water from the wet food now and that's probably why it seems like they are drinking less.

I just want to make sure they are getting enough, specially my male cat as he is still recovering from the whole ordeal.

Greetings and welcome to TCS.  The wet food is very high in moisture -check the can - so they need less water to drink.  They still will drink some, keep an eye on the bowls and make sure they are drinking a little.  Another way is to add a teaspoon or so of water to their wet food.  They will never know the difference and you will feel better knowing they are getting the water.

The desert cat never drinks water, the only moisture they get is from their prey.

catspaw66 is correct. I put water in my kitty's food and I never see her go for the water bowl. My kitty had a UTI last year and has not had a recurrence. I switched over to 100% wet with the added water, no prescription food.

This is what we're trying to do, switch to 100% wet. Our girl cat is completely fine with it but our male cat isnt used to eating so much wet at once. He will pick at it and eat it but never more than 1/4 of a can at a time and even that's pushing it.

I did notice the water level is lower on both dishes so they must have had a drink and I didnt even notice them, sneaky little cats.
