I was wondering if you go to these stores for cheap books or do you check yard sales or library book sales which are 25 cents. What kind of books do you buy ?  I  bought 5 Stuart Woods books for 25 cents a piece

in great shape.I'm going to read them and then take them to Half Price Book store and exchange them for Stephen King books ( hard back only )

We don't have used book stores around here. There's a great place in Connecticut....The Book Barn.....and when I visit my GF there, we always spend hours at The Book Barn. Amazing place. I load up on bags of books there. Hard cover books are between $4 and $5 each and paperbacks are usually about $1.

I don't go to yard sales that often. Once when I was out walking a few years ago, I came across a yard sale and found a ton of cookbooks. I told the guy, "Don't sell them! I need to go back to my office for money! But I'll be right back!" He laughed and I came back to the office, grabbed my money, and drove back to the yard sale. I bought every cookbook he had. I forget exactly what I paid, but it was a great steal!

My GFs and I always go to the huge library book sale in July; it lasts about 5 days. Our library has it in a local church's gym....used to be $15 for as many books as one could fit into their bag. I think it's going up to $20 this year, which I also think is a little ridiculous. But it's a nice day out. We either go for breakfast and then hit the sale. Or hit the sale first and then go for lunch. It's a nice time. Last year Rick came with us and he paid for everybody's breakfast.
(Lately though, I've been buying the books at the sale and then I turn around and donate them back to the library for their next sale! Makes a lot of sense.)

Our library big book sale was $1.00 a bag whatever u can carry in a bag. Hardback, softback, magazines, kids books, and VHS( when they had them then ) DVD cases. etc.... I love going to that sale. But now they still have 25. cent books for sale some in great shape. I look everytime I go in.

I don't normally go to yard sales, but I've bought books in used book stores and library sales before.

I haven't been to yard sales in a while, but I hardly ever find books that I want to buy.  I do go to the used book stores, but they are less than half price, and if you take books up you get a decent store credit.

Well, we were supposed to take my grandson to the Half Price Books store today but his mother didn't bring him over last night. Oh well  I told him we can go another day for sure.

As much as I've looked, I almost never find books I want at yard sales... seems like they're almost always cookbooks, something by John Grisham, or self help books. <.<; I'll admit to being picky when it comes to books, but these three types are predominant to an absolutely bizarre degree.

We do have a Half-Price Books in town, but for some reason their prices are terrible. I used to visit some of these stores when I still lived in Washington and they were great, I used to buy tons of books from them... but this one is more like "Full Price Books". Not sure what's going on there; their selection is pretty sparse so maybe they just don't do very good business. Granted this is Florida, so most people are probably selling their books at their garage sales instead. <g>

Mostly I buy books on eBay. I used to prefer Amazon, but the shipping rates on eBay are generally better; some sellers will let you combine shipping (AFAIK, Amazon no longer does this) or some books have free shipping, which is even better.

I could spend all day in a library or Half Price Books store . Sitting there drinking a coke and reading in a corner or just watching people walk by.
