Haven't heard anything in awhile so thought I would check in.

How did the vet visit go?

I just thought of updating when I saw this in my inbox. Appt went well but he said she was to far along to palp them clearly? I didn't feel like ponying up for a sono when I would know soon. She does have worms-(tapeworms)- so taking care of that... Wormed both just to be on the safe side.

She is due ANY day now. Kitties are moving, she's enormous and uncomfortable, wants me nonstop, tried to claw her way out of the front porch to be with me--hubby was not enthused about that part-- oh well lol. I'm deathly allergic to her.. =\ just touching her breaks me out in hives, watery eyes, stuffs me right up. It sucks-- I really like her so I've just been dealing with it although it makes me miserable.

Her teats are pretty full-- especially the back ones (those started filling up last week) and has slowly worked into the rest being pretty full to. I haven't tried squeezing them or anything of that sort. I just wanna leave her be-- she is shedding like crazy and I tried brushing her but that darn near killed me with all the flying fur. =\

I will have to figure something else out as its just not feasible to have a cat I can't even touch without breaking out in hives. I was hoping a bath would fix that and it didn't.

Oh and then somebody dropped off yet another cat. So three strays. Hubby says "NO MORE"... It's a very pretty cat and the kids have been playing with it. Just appeared 3 days ago and has been hanging out under my porch and around it. Very smart cat to.

So now it's just a waiting game. Everything is set and ready. Pulled the blinds on the porch so it's nice and dim in there. Hoping to see some kittens in a few days.

Yeah it does sound like she is getting close! The vet just meant he couldn't palpate them to have an estimate on how many there might be, but he clearly confirmed that she's pregnant (though I think you already knew that based on her enormity and nipples). Knowing the number doesn't really matter- it's always a guesstimate anyway and I have yet had a vet actually guess right!

It's good that she's so comfortable with you that she wants to be with you but it sucks that you are so allergic! I thought you already had two cats- or are they just strays? I don't know that you can be allergic to one cat in particular without being allergic to them all. So, if you aren't allergic to your residents then it has to be something on her. Now probably isn't the time to try and deduce what it is but it may be worth looking into for the future. Obviously you can't keep her if you are in misery all the time and I wouldn't blame you for that. Really, it's amazing that with such a strong reaction you are still giving her a home in which to have her babies! If you can't figure out the cause hopefully you can find her a home when you start advertising the babies.

To try and help it may be worth investing in a furminator (a type of brush). Those do a fantastic job of pulling out the undercoat and dander which is what most people are allergic too. They also make kitty bath wipes that help pull off the excess dander. You may also want to grab some disposable gloves and surgical masks to wear when you are around her. And, of course, keep Benadryl on you at all times. If you are breaking out in hives then your reaction may be severe enough to cause breathing problems if you inhale too much. Err on the side of caution when it comes to allergies!

It's also good she was wormed prior to giving birth- less of a chance this way that the kittens will have worms though it's still something to watch for. It sounds like you are ready to go- do keep us posted when she has them!

Oh, and another stray?!?!?! Goodness girl do you just have a stray cat beacon on you or something???
You are amazing for looking after all of them until more permanent homes can be found. They are lucky to have found you!

Well see I think the difference is that she is a friendly cat-- she loves pettings and rubs up against me. My resident stray is NOT friendly--- she only likes pets on her head, and only a few or she will bite/hiss/scratch. Touch anywhere but her head and expect to be clawed. Lol so I probably don't touch her enough to get a reaction is my thought...

I will check out that stuff you mentioned. I do have some masks and I bought plastic gloves lol! :( maybe once she is over this huge shedding it won't be so bad.

Yeah when I touch her the hives, eye watering, sneezing, runny nose last quite a while. I have benedryl but it knocks me right out. I've been erring on the side of caution bc I tried sweeping the floor out there and once I was done my tongue and throat were itching terrible and felt like my tongue was swollen. I've never had any reaction to Isis so hopefully I can figure it out.

That would make sense why you are reacting so badly to her and not necessarily your others.

Of course I love cats and would love to see you keep her but you do need to be really careful. There are allergy pills and shots you can also look into, but my understanding (from having my own allergies) is that these are not nearly as effective when the reaction is so severe. I get the same symptoms as you do to iodine (whether topically or ingested). I've never had it to the point where I've had to go to the hospital or anything but my doctor makes me carry an Epi- pin just to be safe. She said any allergy that causes hives and swelling has the potential to cause throat swelling/breathing problems. So, maybe you need to nicely ask hubs (and hope he doesn't divorce you
) or the kids to do the things like sweeping which stir up a lot of dander.

The silver lining is kittens don't start producing dander until they are a fair amount older so you should be fine in handling them, and you are probably okay with handling/petting her with gloves and a mask. But, avoid the sweeping!

Thanks for the advice. I am currently nursing my 7mth old so I can't take much allergy relief wise so I guess I better be more careful. I have a swiffer to, so maybe that would be the better option instead of sweeping. The kids don't seem to have any reactions to any of the cats and my 2nd child loves sweeping so ill gladly hand the reins over to him. He's only 5 so the sweeping isn't top notch but better than feeling like I can't breathe.

Hmm.. No kittens yet, but her teats are filling with milk-- just a few days ago it was hardly noticeable, now they are "bags" that are floppy/full feeling. Kittens are moving like crazy as well... She's started nesting-- she rearranged her kennel, but seems to prefer a smaller box I prepared for her (the kennel is an XL size plastic dog kennel). Very very affectionate and plops right over on her back for belly rubs. She has been busy licking/pulling the fur out around her nipples-- there are little fur bunnies everywhere but I haven't swept bc of my allergies. Her furtherest back nipples are very defurred.

I'm thinking it should be soon???? I haven't bothered with checking for a temp as it doesn't seem like something she (or I) would enjoy lol.

Cat was busy nesting and ripping up her cardboard and newspaper. It was nice and "neat" when I laid the blanket in there, but she still wasn't satisfied with it so she's been busy making it her own still. This is the first time she's shown any real nesting behavior so I think she's probably going to be having babies in a day or two? She has definitely had her milk in.. they are full, practically rock hard. When I pet her belly today she nailed my hand and bit me... that's the second time she's ever done that... and she was purring while she did it.
