Hey everyone

Meet my tiny friend-

He's about 4.5 weeks old, and comes with a story.

A few weeks ago some cat had a litter near my house, in a trench between my and my neighbor's gardens.

I heard kitten meowing for 2 nights and could not sleep, so i went to see what the fuss was all about. Unfortunately, the mother has abandoned 2 of her kittens, and took only one with her (this i found out only recently)

I found a beautiful black kitten who unfortunately starved to death already, and heard faint croaky meows, so i started digging in the pile of construction materials in the trench. Took half an hour, but i finally found this little guy. He was weak, thin, barely moved and barely meowed. By the looks of it he was 2-3 days old.

Took him home, started treating him, and soon he was up on his feet again.

Here are some pictures:

2.5 weeks old

3.5 weeks old, getting a new much larger nesting box (did a little project, it's padded from every direction, including the walls, the floor is heat/cold insulated and has triple layer padding)

(Edit- i see now that this site doesn't allow links, replace the *'s with ************* and you'll be able to see the pics)

The first picture in the thread is from 2 days ago.

This little guy is heaps of fun, already litterbox trained, and gladly runs to explore any new place.

Been to the vet a couple of times, no health problems whatsoever, she also told me usually kittens with stories like this have around 20-30 chance to survive even if found and treated. Is that true?

Currently trying to convince my mother to let me keep him (university student, still at the folks' home because my uni is very close)

She wants me to give him to the nearest shelter when it's possible (6-7 weeks old), which i have no intention to do.

I'm a complete noob at this, so you can expect quite a few questions in the near future....

Happy to join TCS.

Hi and welcome to TCS. Thanks for rescuing this little guy. He is just adorable. Have you named him yet? I couldn't bear to give him up. You're his mommy now.

No name yet, at first my vet said it's a "he", but last time she wasn't sure anymore, i'll be there tomorrow and we'll find out if it's a he or a she, name will be given accordingly. (will be glad to get some ideas on that, i'm drawing blanks...)

And yeah, from the moment his tiny paw grabbed me when i dug him out the pile, literally grabbing hold to life, i knew i wouldn't be able to give him away.

Soo precious. One of our cats has a similar story my husband went to the alley to throw something in the dumpster. There (this Part is horrible) he saw a mama cat and 2 newborns that had been hit by a garbage truck. He started back to the house to get something to put them in to go have them laid to rest. He had only made it a few steps when he heard a tiny cry, so he looked around and found 1 tiny baby that hadn't been hit at all. He was so young his eyes weren't open and you could hold him in the palm of your hand. Bruce took him everywhere b/c he needed a bottle every 2 hours or so. His name is Fat Cat and he's definitely not small anymore, he just turned 10. Good work saving the little one you will have a special connection forever, the ones you truly SAVE never forget it ^^

Just came back from the vet, well- the "he" is actually a "she".

As far as i'm concerned, instead of a fuzzy guy i have a fuzzy little princess.

Now i'll just need a name....

Take it your mum has let you keep her :) think of a name that fits with her story. We recently adopted a kitten and called him Zachary after a children's book about a kitten who got taken from his mum and was adopted, it was called Zachary's new home :) she's adorable by the way

Actually no, my mom wants her out of the house asap.
I'm stalling for time while thinking of ways to convince or bypass her.
I think I'll be able to keep her outdoors, our garden is completely surrounded by either a tall wall or a tall fence, I live in a narrow dead end alley, no cars going through, and surrounding our house are other alleys, in general I live in a tiny place, sort of like a village, so it should be safe to keep an outdoor car here.
If that is what I end up doing, I already have plans for a high tech nesting box, and of course when it rains- she goes in the house.
Will keep you all posted
