Buddy threw up the other day and was walking funny. He looked very thin and just...ill. He looked like Sami before she died
. We took him right down the vet. Yesterday they said he hadn't thrown up and was eating and seemed okay but they wanted to run tests. Called today and they said his kidneys were failing. He is only 3...She showed us the test results, everything else was perfect except the following:

BUN: 57
CA: 2.97
CRE: 1107

I've spent the last couple hours trying to research this...but there is more information than my mind can handle right now with other things going on in my life. They are going to keep him for a few more days, do x-rays and give him fluids. Then we go from there.

I feel bad because I think there were subtle signs, now that I think about it. Plus, Parker has been very clingy, whiny and needy the last week or two. I think he was trying to tell us Buddy was sick. He's been beside himself since Buddy's been at the vet.

So sorry to hear, espcially in such a young cat!  I've seen it before but it is rather uncommon for a young cat to go into kidney failure.  I'd check around the house to make sure there isn't anything he could have gotten into though it is possible he just had plain bad luck genetically speaking.

Hopefully the treatments will get him through this crisis and you'll get at least a little more time with him.  My heart goes out to you and yours.

Buddy is still at the vet. Called today and they said he is not eating on his own at all. They have been force feeding him since the weekend...I'm scared he isn't going to make it much longer..

My cat two years ago..he was 9, had the same thing. He didn`t want to eat at the vets, so the vet gave him vitamins via the IV. He was

at the vets for about 4 days. With the IV`s and Baytril for antibiotics turned him around. I did have to take him back everyday for 2 weeks straight for the Baytril shots. I sure hope your kitty turns around...but there is hope. He also had to be on a kidney diet for quite awhile as well.

I'm so sorry!  Do you think maybe he got into some antifreeze or something?  For a cat this young, it sounds more like or was caused by poisoning and antifreeze is a major culprit.  But as the above posted stated, they CAN overcome this.  It's difficult when it's like this, but it can happen.  What did the Vet say...do they think they can save him?

He is 100% indoors, so that is out. Any other possible toxins that can cause it? We don't have plants either...They haven't said much so far, they are just trying to get him to eat on his own...but he seems to be going downhill pretty quick.

Household cleaners are the usual culprit for indoor pet poisonings.  In the case of young cats going into renal failure, if it isn't toxcitiy related it could be infection or auto-immune disorder (read as- nothing you could have known or done anything about until he became sick). It doesn't help that cats are such masters at hiding illness until it reaches the crisis stage.

I wish for the best for you and Buddy, my heart goes out to both of you.
