I jut received an e-mail from my ex-boss's wife telling me that her husband collapsed Tuesday night and passed away in the hospital - they were u nable to revive him. I had worked as his Exeutive Secretary for 15 years when we lived in Ft. Lauderdale. He was more than a boss --- just like a big brother and good friend. I'm just so devastated by this. He had just celebrated his birthday on 4/6 (I think he was 77) - and I sent him a birthday message, he wrote back thanking me for always remembering him. His wife said they had celebrated his b/d on Sat at their country club and danced the night away.

Just had to share this with all of you. He was just such a special and wonderful man --- and among other things -- a cat lover.

Thank you all for a shoulder to cry on!!!

Please accept my condolences, he sounded like a nice man and a nice boss. The world should mourn when we lose a cat lover, because there are just as many who don't like them. 77 is such a young age too, I'm so sorry for his wife and for you, a friend. God bless.

Thank you for all your kind replies. Maybe it sounds strange to feel this way about an ex-boss, but he was just more than that --- so much like my much loved older brother. He was so good to me all the years I worked for him. We always went to parties at his house, even if they were just for his family because he always said "you are family". I have so many lovely presents that he gave me over the years. I have a lithograph of a cat hanging here in the office that was a gift from him and his wife years ago. Whe my Boots died John and his wife contacted breeders and were going to get us a Siamese (they were Siamese lovers), but we had already gone to the Humane Society and found BJ and Ali. John immediately came over the house to "meet" the new kitties and bring them presents.

I just couldn't stop crying all yesterday about this loss.

Thanks again - I know all of you can understand.

Your post just reminded me of one of the many things. We had a stray cat that had gotten into the warehouse below our office (it was a large graphic arts company). Of course I took it on myself to take care of Mama Cat and feed her. John (being a cat lover) knew how much this meant, so he had us take Mama to the vet to get all her shots and be spayed. Of course the company paid all of h er medical bills. He said he knew he could never live with me if we didn't do that for the cat. Mama had a litter of kittens that we found homes for (in fact, one of my neighbors adopted one of the kittens) and after her surgery, we found a lovely girl who adopted her and gave her a wonderful home for the rest of her life.

Just one of the many stories I am remembering!

I just sent a donation to the American Heart Fund in memory of John.

Again - thanks to all of of you for being "a shoulder to cry on". I still can't believe he's gone. Wish I had gotten to see him once more!
