I have read that freeze dried probiotics are just as effective.  Is this true.  Are they at least close?  I am also worried about stomach acid destroying the bacteria before it reaches the intestine. I am considering Mercola Complete probiotics for pets.  Thanks!

I used the Mercola product at one time, but switched back to a human probiotic for my furkids.  Mainly did this because my cats seemed to dislike the taste of the Mercola probiotics.  The one we ALL use now is Natural Factors Double Strength Acidophillus & Bifidus 10 Billion Active Cells.  It states on the bottle " For Maximum Potency Refrigerate".  Not sure what that really means, but when it is shipped, it is NOT shipped with a cold pack and I order it via Amazon.

As far as stomach acid destroying it before it hits the intestines, I think it's doing it's job, but, once again, really don't know for sure.  All I can tell you is that they don't seem to be having any intestinal issues, not even when I switched them from canned to raw.  No diarrhea, no gas, no fowl smelling stools,  nothing like that.  Even on those days when I need to feed them canned for some reason, still no digestive issues.  And I give them the probiotic with their food, not 1/2 hour later, as the bottle suggests.
