What did you want to be when you "grew up"?

I wanted to be a teacher and held on to that going into college. I was a Math major with plans of becoming a High School Math teacher. After 2-1/2 years of Math, my head was :dead: and I switched majors. :lol3:

Fun question!

When I was five I told my parents I wanted to be a Missionary "to see the deep dark jungles of Africa".

Then I wanted to be President of the United States.  Until I realized I was really bored with politics (I was 15 at the time).

I wanted to be a veterinarian. I continued that dream until I got into pre-vet. Way back then (I'm dating myself here):D, there were very few vet schools in the country. I had friends with 4.0 grade averages waiting years to get into one of them. At that point, I changed my major and moved on.

During my early Elementary years I either wanted to be a doctor or a lunch lady.
(I wanted to cut my own meat in the lunch room!  "mystery meat" I think is what it was...)

I stuck with a medical idea for a long time.  I was accepted into a college to study theology; but decided to pursue nursing at a local school instead.  A few weeks before clinicals started I decided to switch to Interior Design.  I finished my associates with that; but never got to go on because I was married at that point, etc.  Never got to use it for a paying job!  Now I just wish I'd stuck with nursing so I could get a more flexible job like some friends of mine have.  They get to be home with their kids a lot but get some work in too!  I'm not sure I'd be the best nurse though.  People can be...difficult.

I wanted to be a vet for a brief while, and then I realized that I wouldn't be able to stomach putting down people's pets (Especially now that I'm older and I see some of the stupid reasons people put down their animals.  Back then it was like "I know that it's needed, but I couldn't do it!"  Now it's "I know that sometimes it's needed, and I woudln't be able to do it, but I also knwo sometimes people are just morons and I wouldn't be able to not punch them in the face.")   Then I wanted to be a zoologist for a few years.  Then an Egyptologist.  Decided to either being an actress, cop, soldier, or politician.

I finally settled into a career as a massage therapist which was... honestly something I never, ever saw myself doing but I love it.

This describes my initial wanting to be a vet experience exactly.  I worked 2wks one summer for a uncle who was a long-established vet in Houston & just had to go out of the room & cry my eyes out when people came in for "that day."   I should also mention I had no idea that they made rubber gloves for livestock that came up to your shoulder .. whuuuuuut?!?   Aaack!

I also wanted to be an ER or CareFlight nurse at one time, but same thing really - I could never be the one to have to tell a parent that their child didn't make it in an accident.

I ended up a medical malpractice defense paralegal for 15yrs, then moved into data network communications/operations until I retired.

A teacher (I don't like kids, though, so imagine how that would have turned out!)

Thankfully, my sister decided on teaching, although she's a Curriculum Director now and I went into the Planning field.

A airline stewardess because my Godmother was one and I envied her (although they are not called that anymore :lol3: Flight Attendants) I thought it would be so cool to fly from city to city and travel the world that way. But, that was before I became very fearful of flying and extremely claustrophobic. Squashed that plan. :smash:

I wanted to be a vet for the longest time. I have still thought of taking vet tech courses after I finish my transportation and logistics management degree. Just because.

I also used to love to grade papers. Never wanted to be a teacher, just wanted to grade papers :lol3: I used to help my former teachers grade stuff when I was in an afterschool program.

When I was really little, I wanted to grow up to be a dog and have puppies...

Through the rest of my childhood, I wanted to be a doctor and work in the ER or be a paramedic.
