Two years ago a young feral female was on my sister's porch.  The cat lived in the vestibule of the house for over 2 weeks before she came in the house and has not left the house since.  A Vet to Pet service came to the house and amputated her tail (apparently she was abused or somehow hurt).  The vet then stated she was about 2 yrs. old then, although he could not do a complete exam he was thought he could see her ear was niched indicating that she was spayed.  Perhaps TNR

After two years the cat still is not socialized – will not jump on lap, will not sleep in the room if anyone else is in the room, often hides for a day or more without being seen.  She will play will the laser light, and a catnip toy.

Now she is either spraying or urinating in the house and not using the litter box.

Any ideas or help or encouragement???

Thank you for helping her!  Rare are the people who can have a cat that won't respond to humans.  Rare and valuable!

Have there been any changes - new litter, new food, new members of the family (animal or human)?  Any construction, painting, spring cleaning going on?  All these can stress any cat but it is more likely with a feral (inside or outside).  Even if the hub bub is not inside the house, she might hear it and be stressed.

If not, she may have a medical problem.  Urinary tract infections can make them uncomfortable and cause them to use places other than the litterbox for their bathrooms.  She might need to see a vet, just to be safe.  (I know, I know - the drama!)  I've had to use a humane trap to get one of mine to the vet!

Whatever the cause, get some Nature's Miracle or similar product and SOAK all the areas liberally.  This will kill the enzymes in her waste and make it less likely she'll go there again. Of course, you have to identify why this al started or she'll just pick new spots.

Good luck.

There is a possibility that she has been so stressed by being indoors for two years without making any progress that the stress has caused bladder inflammation. Stress can directly be linked to urinary tract issues. Have you tried confining her to one room so you can work with her more closely and she can't run and hide? There are also medications that can help to calm her and at the same time let the bladder quiet down. Elavil. I have had one of my cats on that on and off during times of stress as he has FIC. It really has helped him. Talk to the vet about this. It is also possible that she may never be happy as an indoor cat. I think if I were in your shoes, I would limit her territory in the house to one room so that I could work with her and evaluate her more closely.

It is important to clean the areas that she has urinated and here is an excellent article on the how to do just that. Nok Out is the best there is and it can be ordered on Amazon or on-line.
