Hi everyone.

I recently adopted an adorable little kitten after he was abandoned. He has been to the vets who said he seemed well looked after and said he was around 6/7 weeks old (that was almost a week ago) they also gave me some worming treatment as we dont know his background.

I have never had a kitten before so I just have a few questions, I'd appreciate some help please :)

First of all how much should I be feeding him? He has been getting through just over 1 (87g) pouch of wet food a day, along with having a nibble on the dry, and some kitten milk too as i know he's too young to be away from mum. Is this enough?

Secondly any clue on a breed? Iv attached pics at the bottom, he is lovely and affectionate but also very crazy when in play mode. His eyes are also a stunning blue, at what age do these chance if ever?

All advice would be appreciated as I want him to grow up happy and healthy, all other advice appreciated.

Thank you all :)

Hi there and welcome to TCS . Your kitten is adorable! He looks a little like a persian to me.

A young kitten his age should eat as much as they want. I would offer more wet food if he wants it. It's healthier than dry because it has more meat and protein.

Usually, if their eyes are going to change color it will be around 8 weeks.

It's normal for kittens to get crazy when they play. Use a toy to play with him instead of your hands. You want him to learn that hands are for petting and toys are for biting and scratching.

Have fun with your new little buddy

Awww
  I'm in love..

What a gorgeous little solid white DMH kitten (domestic medium hair), by the look of him.

He's very young.. a little young to be away from his mum, so make sure you give him lots of handling and loving and quality time. Gentle grooming is a lovely way to bond.  Playing is really important.. dangly toys are a big hit.  And scratching posts and something to climb on, preferably with hidey holes.

I'm hoping you're planning on keeping him inside, as white kitties are very prone to skin cancer.

As for what to feed him.. we have people here with a huge amount of knowledge on the subject.. you may even choose to go for a raw diet.  Check out our nutrition threads.. you may like to post there as well.

We look forward to seeing more of him.. What's his name?

Thank you for your replies :) Iv had someone else say he looks Persian but not as extreme with the flat face.

He does love his toys but he does get a little excited and pounces and bites my hands so I just pick him up and move him, or just say 'no' he usually comes back and plays nicer then :)

Yes he will be and indoor cat, my mum wants him to be incase he gets stolen with him being so pretty and there's a couple of cats around here who fight.

He does defo prefers his wet food and only nibbles his dry occasionally but I just put that down to him being so young, I will still provide him both along with water (even though he keeps stepping in water and getting annoyed which is pretty funny)

His name is Zachary, it fits well as my partner did an assignment for university and it was based on fostering and adoption and a book was used called Zachary's new home. It explained fostering and adoption in a child friendly way using animals and Zachary was a little orphaned kitten. We also spent months looking for a soft toy cat, white with blue eyes to go with the book and could not find one anywhere, a few weeks later the real life one turned up, it's adorable.

Ill have a read on the raw diet as Iv heard about it.

Thank you again

Also what age could I start to introduce a little raw food? And which is best?
