I would..just watch em if theyr gettin milk they should be more content and if not theyll be fussy...try messaging her nips with a warm rag ive done that on dogs b4..did her kittens stop moving b4 birth??
I agree. Guide them to the nipples if they need help and let them take it from there- they will find them through her long hair. Hopefully they have done so and are overall quiet. If so they are getting enough.

You need to weigh them ASAP if you haven't already and keep a close eye on that as its the most reliable way to know that they are getting enough. Unless you are certain they aren't eating don't interfere at this point. Keep things calm and quiet and let mom and babies get to know each other and learn their routine.

You have a little time for them to sort it out- don't panic yet. Give us an update when you can so we can better advise.

Deep breath......

I'm sorry to hear about the 5th baby- unfortunately sometimes they just don't make it. At least s/he didn't suffer. 3.5 oz are great weights and it sounds like the others are thriving. I know it's tempting but don't fuss with them too much over the next few days other than to give them a look over and get a weight. Focus all your attention on Mom and make sure she has everything she needs as well as plenty of affection if she wants it. She needs to know that her nest is safe and that you are there to help her, not take her babies. There will be plenty of time for socializing in the future, but right now is all about her!

They look gorgeous- I'm glad you have 4 happy, healthy, quiet babies! Give yourself a pat on the back for surviving!

If you haven't already please start a new thread and explain the situation so that others can provide you with advice. This thread is for Lala and her Queen and any questions that she may have. Your question is important but it's going to get lost in all the activity happening here.

Everyone is great. The runt is still having a hard time but.shell get it. Mommas doing great and allowing them to suckle. Shes left once to eat and drink. And relax with out the babies but otherwise shes doing awesome now. I can now pinch the nipples and a bead of milk comes out! So theyll be ok! Im so in love guys! So besides taking weights i should just be leaving them be right?! Any other after birth pointers would be great

Everyone is a bit different on the after birth handling philosophies but my general rule of thumb is minimal handling for the first two weeks. I think it helps keep Mom calm and minimizes den moves. After that two week mark I slowly start handling them more- to the level that Mom is comfortable with. From three weeks on is when you really want to get hands on and when their socialization is the most critical. And, as they get older Mom will get less stressed. Trust me, she will let you know if she does not want you handling her babies. Other than the daily weights respect that boundary.

Otherwise, the next week or so is all about weight gain. They are completely blind and deaf and just look like glorified hamsters. In the next week or so their cords will fall off on their own (be careful you don't snag them in the weighing process). Around 10-14 days their eyes should be fully open (though they often start opening around day 7) and then their ears will start to unfold and they will get more mobile. Around week 4 is when you should start introducing wet food and the litterbox.

You will have questions as time goes on and just ask as they come up- this is just super general of the next big milestones to come. For the next week just love on Momma and watch their weights. ANY weight loss and they should be seen by a vet immediately. You've made it past the scariest part. Now just enjoy the relative quiet because in a few weeks it will be a nuthouse and you will be wishing they were back at the tiny hamster phase instead of climbing all over you at all hours!

Oh, and take pictures! I'm assuming that most (if not all) will be adopted out and it's so fun for the new families to get to see pictures of their baby as they grow. Being able to show them their whole lives just makes the bond even stronger, and they are so fun to look back on!

I wanted to add this link as well- it's not the best growth chart I've seen but it does lay out the basics though it does have the timeline pushed up about a week sooner than I generally do things. For example, it says you can start litterbox training at 3 weeks but I have found that until they start on solids Mom will just keep eliminating them so it's pretty pointless. And, it says you can begin handling socialization at two weeks which is true, I just prefer to base it on Mom's reactions, and all the Queens I have had are still pretty uncomfortable with long term handling until closer to three weeks. I think it's better to mentally prepare yourself for three weeks without much handling and be pleasantly surprised, then to plan on two weeks and be frustrated and disappointed.

Again, you just have to feel her out- she will let you know what she's comfortable with. Finally, it does outline the general timeframe for beginning vaccinations and deworming. Each vet is a little different in when they like to start but at least getting the kittens going  on their vaccines prior to adoption is one of the best things you can do for them (in addition to having them altered). It's perfectly fine to charge an adoption fee to recoup the costs, and oftentimes taking care of the basic vet work is the only way you can really charge an adoption fee. Any good adopter is going to be fine with paying extra for a vaccinated, altered kitten (so long as you provide the paperwork that it was indeed done). Anyone who isn't okay with it isn't responsible enough for one of your precious kittens!

I cant stress enough how you need to be there to help. Make sure everyone knows how in the house. I had to intervene. Youll know when there coming. If you have a good relationship then shell tell you. It only took about an hour and a half for all five. Just try and stay calm. I wish i did. I was so scared cuz she didn't know wgat to do...but she got it once the commotion stopped. Plus i had to help them find nipples and assist her milk drop...i used a warm cloth and massaged her nipples...def weigh them cuz you wanna make sure they are actually getting milk and are gaining 10-15g. A littke less or more day to day. But never losing weight. I promise youll know when its time just have everything ready. Gloves, tons of towels, gauze, and maybe a baby booger sucker, just in case. I also had bottles and KMR on hand too. Youll do fine regardless. Just love her and watcg her. And make SURE your wuth her givung birth. Dont stress ger or hover but be there and watch... It could be the diff between life and deatg

I need help...my runt seems to be having a hard time...all weigh 3.2-3.5 oz but tge black one is 2.73..i couldn't take weights yesterday cuz momma didn't want that but when im tgere he seems to not find the nipple well whike tge others are doing good with it. Should i be concerned? Or am i just being neurotic? Hes not fussing or crying unless im touching hin and he sleeps happily with babies and mom. Should i wait till i weigh them next or shoukd i be concerned?
