We shop in Costco all the time and love the store (except here in Florida during "season" -- its a madhouse, but now is getting better). anyway - my question is: Does anyone else get completely turned off by Costco's display of funeral caskets? I know they display all sorts of things there, but I just cringe everytime I see the caskets on display. Maybe they don't display these in all areas of the country, but am curious to know your thoughts.

I don't have a Costco anywhere near me, but my friend in Hallandale and I were talking about this a few weeks ago.  We agreed that when they say 'one-stop shopping'  they really mean it.  It wouldn't creep me out at all, in fact, I would probably look closely at them, inspecting for flaws.  That is the furniture factory worker in me.

to me it is the final destination we all end up dying.  I personally want to be cremated but if husband wanted to spend more and felt he needed to have me buried then so be it.

You have condoms, baby supplies, tampons/pads to old age supplies.  It is just natural to me and does not bother me in the least.

I would kill for a Costco close to us.....even with the caskets. All we ever get are WalMarts and Sam's Clubs. I really like Costco.

They sell caskets?.  I go to Costco but they don't have those at the one I shop at.

They're going to build a CostCo in Sioux Falls next year. . .I wonder if they'll display caskets? I think it's great for their customers that they sell caskets---the funeral homes have ridiculous markups. It seems a little odd to display them all the time; I doubt they sell so many that they need to have a bunch of inventory lying around for kids to stick their grubby hands on. A catalog would be enough, most likely. But it doesn't bother me at all. I think it's illogical to pay a lot of money for something you're just going to bury, but if it makes people feel better, so be it. I would want to be cremated, no showing, so no casket needed.

Don't you just love the samples? :lol3:

I've never seen any caskets at the Costco near me, but if I did, I would probably just find it interesting. I suppose it could be creepy, but if you think about it, they are simply a wooden box.

I love the fact I can get my husband in the store by going weekends so he gets to pile the cat litter into cart for me.  I will take a sample and give mine to him so he makes out pretty well.

A wooden box/shipping crate to...well nowhere really.

Actually, Costco is really nice and, in a lot of ways, it's much better than Sam's Club. It will often carry better deals than Sam's, too. If there was a Costco close to us, we would join. I like the store. I suppose thinking about coffins and caskets and such is kind of creepy and it does sound a little weird to be shopping for groceries and come across a casket in the store!

My second-oldest sister (in the U.S.) is a Costco fan and she's the reason we joined here. The subject of Costco caskets came up when our father died in 2009, but they only had metal ones then which we didn't want. I don't believe the Canadian Costco has them; it would definitely be a bit unnerving to see coffins in the store!

p.s. What are the caskets next to? You don't want to put them next to the meat, or the bleach, or gardening tools... maybe by the flowers?

HAHA:)  Reminds me when I found a litter display next to the food area and I said to the worker jeez some person is going to load up thinking this is   rice or something(40 lb brick of fresh step)  It was dropped there just until they had more room but I thought is was so odd as normally cat stuff is in aisle only.
