First off, thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this! I am at my wits end and I do not know where to go from here. I have two male cats- Phoenix is 2 years old and Yeti is one year old. We moved to a new home on 3/15/13. Shortly after the move, I noticed patches of vomit in the house about every other day. I was unable to tell which cat was ill because I hadn't caught either of them in the act. I dismissed the symptoms and attributed them to stress from the move. I figured out that the vomiting was coming from my 2 year old cat, Phoenix. The vomit started to ease up and my cats seemed to be adjusting well. Then I started to notice runny stools. Again, I thought it was stress and ignored it for a few days. I began walking them in the backyard on a leash. They LOVED it. They both chewed grass as all cats do while outside. I walked them everyday after work for about 4 days straight. Then the vomiting began again and the stools were still loose from Phoenix so I stopped taking them outside...much to their dismay. Last Wednesday I came home and Phoenix's left eye was puffy and red all the way around the outside of it. I decided it was time to go to the vet. Of course they ran lots of tests including xrays of his tummy and bloodwork. The bloodwork came back fine except for moderately high Thyroid levels and the xrays showed moderate inflammation of the intestines. The vet said Phoenix has a slight case of IBD and is pre-hyperthyroid. She sent me home with meds to reduce the acid in his tummy and told me to come back if it didn't get better. I started the process of weening the cats on to a raw diet in hopes of helping Phoenix's IBD. As of today, there hasn't been any vomit for a week but now BOTH cats have diarrhea. I called the vet and made an apt for both boys, but I'm afraid they will just do more tests and wipe my bank clean all to guess at what they have. Any thoughts???

What kind of raw diet did you start? If there's not enough calcium, it can cause runny stools. Just a thought.

Has the house been checked for any kind of pesticide? Sometimes the previous owners will leave ant bait or roach bait somewhere.

Thank you Willowy! My cats eat Blue Buffalo dry food (salmon formula), Weruva wet food with small amounts of Rad Cat and Nature's instinct raw food mixed in. They aren't on raw full time because I was trying to avoid making the stools worse. There are no pesticides anywhere inside the home. Phoenix had a blood test done and no toxins showed up on the results.

Hmmm., well both of those raw foods are nutritionally balanced, so it shouldn't be a matter of not enough calcium causing the diarrhea.  Are you giving them a good probiotic along with the switch to raw?  I would try that, because it's good for them anyway, and since they are both having diarrhea, it can only help, IMHO.  I give each of my cats the same one I take, and I give them 1 capsule per day, just mixed in with their food (I feed raw too)

Gosh, it really does sound like there is something in your new home that is causing them grief.  Did they actually test for toxins?  As Willowy said, it's possible the former owner left something there unintentionally.

that with enough sleuthing, you and your Vet will figure out what is going on here and get your babies back on track
