I'm new here and have a question.
My cat just had some periodontal work done.  Part of the take home was an antibiotic and a fluid called Novladent which I'm supposed to dab on her gums daily.  She HATES this!!!  I tried it on my gums and I agree, awful stuff - felt like Novacaine.  Stung a bit.

It has some peppermint oil in it which may sting.  The ingredients are: Chlorhexidine acetate 0.1%, peppermint-flavored base, FD&C Red 40 & Red 33, 6% ethyl alcohol.

Has anyone heard of this?  Does anyone use anything for their kitty's gums which is a better thing than this stingy stuff?

Thanks

I had not heard of it until you asked about it, so I googled it, and every review I read was very positive.  Apparently this stuff really works, and is used  on top of brushing, so is for animals with really bad oral issues?  Do you already brush her teeth?  If not, maybe your Vet suggested this because they thought it might be easier to use?  Not sure, but if you're having problems with it, then maybe you could try using an enzymatic toothpaste instead?  My cats really like the poultry flavored one.

I'm guessing you are supposed to use this for life, right?  Could it be her gums are still sensitive since she just had work on them?  It's possible that later she will not mind having it put on them.

I would give the Vet a call and tell they what her reaction is, and ask if you could use an enzymatic toothpaste instead, that is, unless you already are.
