My folks finally agreed to let me put up a portable cat pen in the back yard. I looked for pre-made ones and they were either too large, too expensive, or too permenant. I finally decided to make one. I have an idea in mind of one that has pvc piping for the frame and then using heavy duty nylon mesh for the top and sides. I want to make it large enough for my cat to be comfortable in it, but small enough for me to be able to move it (with help) around to different locations. Something around 3ft.L x 2ft.W x 3ft.H.

I know where to get the pvc piping. Home Depot or a Menards, but I am not sure where to locate industrial strength netting sold in bulk rolls. Anyone out there have a homemade cat enclosure that can give me advice? Thanks.

Here's the type of screening used on our back porch. You can buy it at most hardware stores, too....Check this out

I don't see a location on your profile, so unsure where you are. Being in the greater Seattle area, the marine and industrial boat yards have netting in all widths, grains, stengths, etc. They keep them on huge spool for the crabbers, salmon trawlers and the like. They sell them to whatever/whomever and it's cheap. They will give you as much as you want, but don't ask for the entire spool, they're pretty huge.
So if you live inland quite a bit and not near water, your local hunting and sportsman's shop would have something for you - depending on what part of the country you are in. Hunting and fishing stores are great for creative stuff for animals, although I hate the hunting part, of course.

Hmmmm.....could look like a cage, but have you considered welded wire, such as they use in fencing, or perhaps chicken coop wire? I live in the country, and can find things like this at any farm & fleet dealer.

have my heart set on a stiff nylon, or coated plastic mesh to use with the pvc piping. I just wasn't sure what retail outfits carried nylon/plastic mesh in bulk. I saw the pre-made kittywalk brand enclosures and they are basically tunnels. They aren't large enough.

They sell the mesh you are talking about at Lowes. I saw some there when I bought some wire mesh there not long ago. Its outside in the garden and fencing dept. They have different thicknesses of it too.
