Siamese Cat Question?

I rescued a Siamese mixed cat from my vet that was dropped off to be put down almost 4 years ago. One of my Ragdolls died the same day and I was offered him (Mr SOCKooo) for no charge. He has turned out to be a gift from god as he is the best cat of my 5 that own me
My question is he is thought to be about 13-14 years old according to my vets estimate. I just spent $350 bucks today to get his last molar tooth extracted + all other services included. He only has his 4 canines left.......all other teeth were pulled or fell out over the years
Is this normal for a Siamese cat to lose this many teeth? I also had a smaller blood draw and had him shaved with a "lion cut" again. His blood work is fine. Thanks !

I don't think that's necessarily a breed thing. . .although since dental health appears to be genetic I'm sure some lines have more dental problems than others. And I think the flat-faced breeds have more dental problems due to the shape of their mouths. But most older cats I know have lost teeth, some or all. It's just a thing that happens to some cats.

Is he longhaired? I'm trying to picture a short-haired cat shaved down. . .:D

Thanks for your quick response. I have done a lot of research and figured that he is a Siamese "Snow Shoe" as he has 2 white paws and 2 white boots. I am just up in the air for answers here

I have 4 Siamese now and grew up with cats of many varieties and raised bottle babies and had a Spindle as well as a Russian Blue and lovable moggies. I know this is merely anectodal -something the scientist in me loathe - but I have noticed absolutely no difference in meezers.

My own vet which is "kinda a friend" which I trust for about the last 8 years. He told me that Siamese cats tend to have BAD Teeth per their own breed
This is a rescued cat and have zero clue on the Siamese breed in general as far as the teeth problems.

Hmm s2ragdolls...perhaps I have been just lucky (or my cats have :-)) . I always thought Siamese were no different but now I will check it out in vet and medical texts. I also ensure they have great dental care. But I imagine anyone on this Board also brushes their kitty's teeth and assures regular vet visits that include dental work.

And I found this..." Siamese cats are fairly notorious for developing dental plaque that sometime leads to tooth and gum problems"

Thank you for that great informative article. Like I said before.......my Siamese mix has only 4 teeth left in his mouth. I feel sorry for him but this cat is sooooooo happy since I brought him home yesterday. I cannot lay down on the couch without him curling up in my arm non stop as I have been off work the last two days. Maybe he is thanking me for pulling out his last molar that was infected bad
I cannot understand why a Siamese cat would be more prone to dental issues over other felines? Must be something in their genes I guess? My vet must know what he is talking about

It is likely a genetic issue if some kind, a long ago mutation. I do not know. I thought mine were poster furbabies for dental care. lol
