Hello!

I'm very new to this site, and recently did some research on cat nutrition as one of my cats is overweight. I've decided that instead of feeding only dry food offered all day, I'd try feeding Fancy Feast Seafood Feast Classic Wet-Food. Each can is 3 oz. Now I'm wondering how much to feed my cats (1/2 can/day, 2 Cans/Day, etc.)?

Here's a brief overview of my cats.

Bear - 10 years old, very small frame, 16lbs, overweight (We're trying to get her to lose weight).

Blackie - 9 Year Old, big-boned, told very healthy and in-shape by our vet, usually is outside all day (both cats have the option to go in and out all day) 14lbs.

So how much should I feed each cat?

Thank you very much!!

Be careful with the fish flavors---too much fish isn't good for cats: http://www.littlebigcat.com/nutrition/why-fish-is-dangerous-for-cats/ It would be best to choose a few non-fish flavors for their main diet and use fish as a treat. It's good to feed a variety of flavors so they don't get too attached to one kind, in case it gets discontinued or recalled.

Most adult cats need about 20-25 calories per pound (of their ideal weight, not current weight if they're overweight) per day. Less for older or not-so-active cats, usually around 15 calories per pound per day. For most foods, that would be about 5-6 ounces a day for an average-sized cat. Here's a chart with the calorie count of a lot of different brands and flavors: http://www.petfinder.com/cats/cat-nutrition/wet-cat-food-calorie-count/ If the flavor you want to feed isn't on there, Google should be able to find you the calorie count somewhere.

Keep in mind that shreds or "filets" or any other kind in gravy will be higher in carbs than the pate flavors, and may have wheat gluten or another ingredient you may want to avoid.

Thank you! I'll be sure to buy a few more different favors. I did thankfully know enough to stay away from the gravy. So roughly two cans a day for each? Maybe a little kibble for a snack? Thanks again!
