No great surprise I guess--loving to eat, but this little girl is only 6.5 pounds.  Right now, she gets a 1/4 cup of dry food (Blue Wilderness or Earthborn) morning and evening, plus half a three ounce can of wet food, usually in the evening, sometimes twice a day.  We're trying her on a variety of premium canned foods.  She loves them all.  I don't want to switch her over completely to canned food--cost and convenience issues--but she enjoys it so much, she has turned into a bit of a beggar.  Just looking for advice from the wet and dry feeders.

What kind of wet food? I used to free feed kibble my cat plus give her wet pretty much whenever she asked which was every 2 hours when I was home. After I switched to mostly raw, she rarely begs for food anymore. High animal protein seems to satisfy her much more. Just a thought based on my experience.

Also, how old is she and how long have you had her? Maybe she's still adjusting to the novelty of the food and will settle down in a while.

Very good point about a high protein diet.  I suspect she may crave protein because she's a high activity cat.  We've had her about three weeks.  She was a stray at a shelter, and I put a claim in on her before she was even cleared for adoption.  She's an adorable British shorthair mix (or maybe purebred), estimated to be between two and three.

I don't know which premium canned foods you're using, but if you're comfortable offering her raw meat, that's cheap (if purchased on sale) and can safely be fed up to 15% of her diet unbalanced. Might make a nice, satisfying treat.

But you can lower your cost on the canned food by mixing in some non-premium foods. Fancy Feast classic varieties are all grain-free, low carb, high protein options. And Friskie's pate style foods have rice, but are also very low carb, high protein options. The other high-protein, low carb canned foods (though they have a reasonable amount of fat, that may also be more satisfying for her) are By Nature, Before Grain, Nature's Variety, and EVO.
