Long story, but today I put a big ceramic bowl of water on my bedroom floor for the cat. I don't know if it's just because it's right beside me that I'm noticing this, but she's drank from it like 7+ times today. To be fair though, today was one of her "hyper days", so she ran up and down the halls for a bit and was moderately active. My cat growing up never drank water, we'd maybe catch her lapping at it once in a while and usually late at night when no one was around. On the other hand, my mom's cat drinks water 24/7, out of a cup (she won't use a bowl), and won't touch it if it doesn't have ice cubes! (I really wish I was kidding on that last part, but I'm not). I haven't really noticed this cat drinking that much water before today, I'd usually see her drink some at dinner when she eats her kibble and that would be it.. so I'm just wondering if it's just the novelty of the new dish, or something to keep an eye on.

My cat drinks lots of water throughout the day. Sometimes my wife thinks he's part cow. I've seen him drink 6 times a day.  He'll drink water after he eats his dry kibble and he'll drink water after one of his frequent naps since he now sleeps a lot since he's getting close to 16 years (in June).

My hybrids (F3 Savannah and F1 Bengal) when they where around, drank a real lot of water. If it was hot and they "ran around, like nuts" they drank even more water. My pure male Serval, when he was alive, drank water like a dog. Now, my two DSH's do not drink a lot of water. But, that is cause they are on whole live prey. So, they get most of the moisture, they need from the prey items. My exotic cat hybrids and pure exotics, ate, the same diet as my domestics. But, they, still drank copious amounts of water. Lastly, my DLH, who, was terminally ill, with a rare enzymatic disorder, drank a HUGE amount of water. Despite, being on the same diet as all my other cats.

Almost never. I fill the bowl with fresh water everyday just for their amusement
.

They eat all wet so I guess they get enough from that.

When my cats ate dry food, both of them drank water all the time.  If I had a glass of water out, they'd drink it. Every time I ran a tap, they'd be up there looking for water.  They'd try to drink from the toilet until I started closing the seat.  They'd drink out of their water dish, but only if it was fresh and otherwise they'd just follow me around waiting for me to leave water unattended.

Once I switched them to wet food (first canned, then raw), I never really noticing them drinking water at all though.

Our little man Si drinks about 4x per day.   Sometimes after his grazing kibble & sometimes after his larger wet meals.  No real pattern to it.

Hmm.. there seems to be no set pattern for cats and water then. Now I'm thinking it's just the dish! She's pretty much abandoned her other water bowl, which is metal.. maybe she prefers the ceramic?? She seriously loves this bowl, now when I take it away she'll sit in the spot where it was and meow for the ceramic bowl of water. I've never really seen her drink this much water before, and I don't think it's a medical thing cause if she was craving water she would drink it from the other dish too, but she doesn't. Interesting.

All of my cats drink from the water fountain AND from the dog's bowl. I see them at the different watering spots throughout the day. I don't know how often or how much they actually do drink but I know they do from the litter boxes :lol3: My senior cat drinks what I think is an excessive about of water. It seems like she's always in one of the bowls drinking or I'll catch her in the sink messing with the faucet. This has started in the past year. No, we can't find any physical problems with her. She's had just about every test that can be given to a cat this past year and they can find nothing wrong with her except old age.

We rarely see Mogli drink, but he's on wet food, so it's not surprising. His litter box tells me he's getting enough moisture. I set up a water fountain for him, but he just flicked the water coming out of the spout all over the walls and floor, so the fountain was deep-sixed. Our RB cat, Jamie, was a dry-food addict and ate half wet and half dry, and we'd usually see him drinking at least two or three times a day. He had a definite preference for onion soup bowls as water bowls and liked the one in the living room best. That's the one we've seen Mogli drink out of. He uses the other three to slop in.

It's really hard to tell how much mine drink. I fill it with fresh water in the morning while they are eating brekkies, but most days I have to change it again after Sugar "drowns" something in it.

Java drinks a good amount now that we have a water fountain. She is on an all wet diet but when we put a bowl of water out for her, she didn't really mess with it. Now, I think she drinks just for entertainment. I think it holds about 160 ish ounces of water and it is usually gone when we clean it (once a week and a half ish).

ETA: I know she doesn't drink that much though. Some of it evaporates.
