Hi, I'm Clare. I have a cat named Astrid who I adopted two years ago. I volunteer a lot, and I wrote her profile for Petfinder. Well, I suppose I advertised her really well, because a while later, I arranged a meeting and adopted her. Oops! I took my avatar picture today while she was sunning herself on my clean laundry. She's three and a half, at least, we think so. She came into the shelter at less than one year old with a litter of kittens, and she spent a long time in foster care nursing orphans. She's now kitten-free (and uterus-free!) and indoor-only, and she's absolutely spoiled.

I'm super-nerdy about her health, and I'm ridiculously excited to say that yesterday marked the switch from half grain-free/high-protein dry food, half super-premium canned food to half super-premium canned food, half premium canned food! I'd love to have her on a whole raw diet one day, but that won't happen any time soon. Well, switching to all-canned is a big deal and I'm happy about it, anyway. I do product demo for a holistic pet food company for a few hours a week, and the employee discount helps a LOT. I'm also really nerdy and passionate about declawing and can't wait to see it become illegal here (in the USA).

I've also got fancy mice and a planted aquarium, and since I live with my parents (yay, post-college unemployment), I kind of also have another cat and a Standard Poodle. I also like reading, politics, beekeeping, BBC "Merlin," and keeping up with/working on environmental/economical sustainability issues.

Welcome aboard.  And that is a big deal about transitioning your cat to canned food.

How do your cats react to your fancy mice?

I did. She gave a "Hello, I'm EATING?" face. :p

I had to use a squirt bottle for a while to keep them off the tanks, but they learned fast. For a while, they were fascinated, especially Astrid, but now that it's been over a year, the novelty's worn off.
