Hi all! So my cat Prim who is an indoor cat and currently not fixed, got out a few weeks ago. There's no doubt in my mind that she's preggo. She lost fur around her nipples and is growing by the day. If I had to guess I would say she's maybe 8 weeks. She's become lazy and somewhat protective of her belly area. I guess I'm asking what to look for. I switched her to a premium kitten food and set up two nesting boxes with old clean linens. What else can I do??? Help! Worried momma here

I think I'm at same stage as you with my momma cat. So anxious and exciting. Is your cat sleeping a lot? I moved the food and water and liter box Into my bedroom since she stays in there 90% of the time now. Mine is very affectionate and follows me around. Give yours lots of love and petting.

Have u checked her temp? You can do it under leg and will be as efficient as in the rear. Just add a degree to the reading if under the leg. When it drops under 100 she's gonna deliver soon

She definitely has been sleeping a ton. I haven't tried her temp. How does that work? Does her temp rise while in labor?

Ha ha just noticed you specified on the temp. Sorry. I'm just so anxious. She keeps trying to go out. Its so hard blocking the door but I don't want her delivering outside

Mine is wanting out too! She's acting similar to when she was in heat. I keep finding the male cat in backyard again too calling her. Mine has had a temp of 99.8-99.4 for 3 days. So must need to drop more. She's been acting like she's gonna start but then nothing. I'm so inpatient... Plus I have a 3 yr old and she's super excited I can barely contain her.

I don't know about my girl cause I didn't know she was pregnant. Her appitite did slow alil a few days before she had the kitten. I remember cause I didn't have to put as much in her bowel a couple days before she had him. So I would say in the next few days to a week. If I'm wrong then you can laugh at me and say you was wrong your a butt lol I'm just very childish sometimes.

If I had to guess I'd say soon. But then again idk much bout pregnant cats. I hope its soon BC we have a big move coming up in a few weeks and would rather have the kittens a free weeks old before having to move them. When Prim ran away for two days my mother in law told me shed come home pregnant. If only I could figure out an exact day then I could calculate :-) I guess ill just stick to stalking her ha ha

OK so heres what I came up with. She was fine between feb8-11 so she can be due roughly between April 16-18?

It's so funny cwhit, sounds like our cats are around the same stage. Mine was eating so much, I couldn't believe how many times I would check and bowl empty. But past week at least she barely eats. Like today she ate more often than lately but just Lil at a time. I went and got wet food to mix in today and she loves that. My dates that I know she was in heat and out was between jan29th-feb 15th. I know she was mating around the first week of February so I'm surprised she hasn't delivered yet.

She could have been neutered as soon as she came back - at that stage she wouldn't have been pregnant as a cat doesn't ovulate until a day or two after the first mating when she is in call, and it takes more time for the egg & sperm to meet, and more time for the zygote to implant.

Only a few mammels are induced ovulators, others include rabbits and the camelids - camels and their relatives.

However you are where you are.  Do you know the dates she got out?  If you do, Google 'cat pregnancy calculator' and put the date in and you will get your due date.  It's 65-66 days from first mating.  Less than 58 days and the kittens are unlikely to survive, more than 70 days and a vet visit is called for, but I would never take a cat to the vet for being overdue unless I knew for sure when she mated.

All you can do is be prepared and wait for the kittens to arrive, and make sure she doesn't again.  She can come back into call quite soon after delivery.  Find out from your vet how soon after delivery she can be neutered, and also make sure you have their emergency details in case she has problems at night.
