I was sitting on the floor, trying to find something. I lifted the dustskirt on the bed, aimed the flashlight, and saw a fluffy cat's tail.  "Hi, kitty! Nice kitty!"

I wondered why "kitty" didn't respond...I was petting one of DH's huge, fake-fur, animal-clawed slippers!

I really need to get more sleep at night.

aaahahahhahha! This is seriously hysterical! Although I admit at first I was nervous you were going to say you were petting some sort of wild animal who had snuck into the house and made themselves at home. THAT would not be so funny!

Sounds like you do need to get more sleep at night. And perhaps take a visit to the eye doctor....

It's a good thing DH didn't catch you in the act. You would probably never live that down!

I often apologize to furry mice that I have stepped on, thinking it was a cat's foot or tail.
I did that this morning.....and almost killed myself in the process. I was going downstairs to the basement with a basket of dirty laundry and I was just in socks. I stepped on Pinky (Tabby's favorite mousie; she loves to play with Pinky on the steps going into the basement). I couldn't see anything over the basket. It startled me and I said, "Oh, I'm so sorry!" (I just automatically say it anymore) But I tried to juggle myself around on the step because I didn't want to hurt whoever I thought I stepped on, hit the stair wall, dropped the basket of clothing, and ended up at the bottom of the steps, smashed against the basement door. Pinky is OK....I'm going to have bruises from that episode. (I looked up the steps and there was Tabby looking down at me. I told her that Pinky was fine and threw Pinky up the steps to her. Tabby picked up Pinky and went up the steps into the living room. Brat.)

I could have broken a leg or something! But hey, Pinky was OK; I guess that's all that mattered.

Haha!  Makes me think about the commercial for eyeglasses when the lady opens the backdoor and lets a raccoon in for snuggles with mommy!
It also makes me think of when my parents still had Alafair at their house (an inside cat) and Jason (an outside cat).  My dad felt a cat jump up on the bed in the middle of the night and thought that it was very unusual for Alafair to be getting in their bed.  He reached out to pet the kitty and was surprised to find Jason's giant Man Cat head instead of Alafair's dainty little girl cat head!  Apparently Jason slipped inside at some point in the evening and decided to make himself at home!

And, I want those slippers!!  They would bring me great joy.

Sooo funny!

Reminds me of a poster I saw once on a tree.  Unfortunately, not a hoax - real!!  Here in Australia we have a lot of unusual furry animals.  We also have quite a few Japanese students who have no idea about animals due to the pet restrictions and built environment in their countries, let alone a knowledge of Australian wild animals.

City parks often have possums.  Really cute, really soft fluffy things with a cute face, live in trees, and can scamper down to get treats from people if we encourage it (it's not encouraged officially for their health tho). Here's a picture of one with baby:  http://www.google.com.au/imgres?img...piUcykJMf4rQfBg4DwAQ&ved=0CEgQ9QEwBA&dur=2672

Anyway, the poster went something like this:

'Found Lost Cat.  Found in X Park.  Not very friendly.  Seems to be terrified of being indoors and peed and ripped up everything.'  Picture of a POSSUM.  (and all the English mistakes of a Japanese student).

Over the river and through the woods...
I thought you'd petted a skunk!
I HAVE done that with a skunk! Granted, it was 3 am and DH and I were coming home from the bar (so, I was half lit), and there were two black and white "kitties" wandering around our house. I thought they were the cutest things (remember, half lit) and started calling "here kitty, kitty, kitty" until they got under the street light and I could really see them. Then is was "go away, go away, go away"

This was an old house with the gas furnace attached the a grate in the living room floor. We found out the family of skunks was actually living in our basement the first chilly night. We turned on the furnace, heard a "whoosh", then a hiss...then smelled the smell. Yep, our whole house was skunked. 30 some degrees and we have all the windows opened. They weren't so cute then.

I have to LOL as my hubby, since we adopted Si, will see what he thinks is our cat (he's black as pitch) and I'll hear him saying "that's Daddys good boy .. then a dammit or two because it was a towel or something.  He swears that Si knows how to shapeshift from one place to another

Of course. Cats can teleport themselves whenever and wherever they want to.  How else does the cat that was sleeping soundly in the other room behind you suddenly run under your feet from in front of you?
