I'm kind of concerned that my cat won't eat meat. She does eat the cat canned food but only if it's fish. Besides that she will only eat beef jerky (we don't understand) she loved fruit such as apples and honeydew. She seems to be healthy and doesn't have any health problems should I be worried?

The beef jerky is very high in salt, nitrates and spices that are very bad for cats.  Try several brands of non-fish wet food to get her away from the all fish diet. Most fish that are used in cat food are predator species and have higher levels of mercury.

Try giving her small pieces of raw meat, beef (not ground beef), chicken, lamb, pork.  When you cook, cut her off some- before cooking- and see if she will eat it.

IF your cat likes raw meat, that's great, but she cannot eat only that either
.  It's a fine line.  I feed raw, and once that is the only thing you are feeding, then you need to make sure it's balanced with calcium (bones) and organ meats, etc.  Just letting you know for the future.  Right now you just need to find out if she likes it, and if she does, then we've got an entire Raw Forum at your disposal.

If she doesn't, have you tried several different varieties of canned, along with several different textures?  Some cats love pate, but don't like chunks, some like slices and hate pate.  Before we went to raw we had to switch from kibble to canned, and had a heck of a time finding canned food that everyone liked.  But with perseverance we finally did it (after what seemed like going thru hundreds of cans of food)  Mine hated all the expensive brands like Wellness and Evo, but really liked Soulistic (Petco's brand).   They do have a few non-fish flavors.

My cat also loves beef jerky. I can't eat it in the house anymore because she will be in my face trying to get some. The closest "safe" beef jerky like food I have found for cats is the Ziwipeak air dried raw, either the treats or the complete food. Both have a very jerky like consistency and even smell.

My cat was a seafood addict as well which is one of the reasons I switched to raw after finding out how bad too much fish is for cats.

This site might prove useful to you http://www.catinfo.org/#Home-Prepared_Diets. I would never give my cat or dogs beef jerky because as someone mention, the salt content is very high, even for humans. I can't tell you why she loves the stuff, all our furkids are unique in their own way ;)

I don't feed my cats fish too often. Maybe once a week. Once they got out of the habit of having it more often they actually prefer turkey, chicken, duck and venison. Duck is their favorite this weeK!!! They are hooked on the Nutro Max Duck with chunks and gravy! Next week it will be something else :lol3: The little darlings drive me crazy sometimes.

MsGreenJeans mentioned the raw forum. Might be something you want to investigate. You can find it at http://www.thecatsite.com/f/65/raw-feeding-for-cats
