Hello!
I stumbled across this forum while searching for some answers regarding my cats. I think I may have come to the right place.
I currently live in central Florida with my family, 4 cats and sadly, only 2 dogs now instead of 3. We had to put our golden down day before yesterday and while I have been preparing myself for it for a while now, no amount of preparing is ever enough when it comes to losing a pet.
Anyhow, about my cats.... As I said, I have 4 "flea-lines" that I love to dearly, all of which are rescues and I'm proud of it!
I got my first cat, Leo, from a couple sitting outside PetCo, claiming to have found this itty, bitty kitty that couldn't have been more than 4 - 5 weeks old. Since their dog didn't approve, they decided to find it a home and I was the lucky one to take him off their hands. My dogs were not to fond of him at first either. My beagle mix looked at him as if she was deciding if he would taste better with ketchup or mustard. But, after about 3 days of working with her she ended up treating him as if he was her own baby. Leo is going on 3 years old now and other than him being somewhat timid, he is a great kitty.
Lizzie, my second cat is nothing like Leo. She was surrendered to our vet as a stray at about 3 weeks old. She wasn't doing so great so the vet tech nursed her back to health for about two weeks before she became mine. Lizzie and I are best buds but she hates everybody else, with a passion! As young as she was, she even smacked the vet tech every chance she got. I got her about a month after Leo so,she is also going on 3 years old.
Mason, my third cat, is my fatty cat. While visiting the shelter to check in on the three stray kittens that I had fostered, Mason chose me! The fosters wanted nothing to do with me anymore but Mason wouldn't leave me alone so of course, I adopted him. He has been with me since he was 8 weeks old and is going to be 2 years old in May. He is such the character, to say the least!
Simons my latest addition. This past September, I got a call from the shelter asking if I would be available to foster three orphans. Not knowing anything about them, I agreed without hesitation. Imagine my surprise when I picked up three newborn kittens that were not more than maybe 4 days old. It was told to the shelter that momma cat, a stray, was hit and killed by a car. I had never had kittens this young so I had no idea what I was up against. To make a long story short, they all had to be separated which made the job to much for me alone so two of them went off to another foster parent. Had I been able to keep all three until it was time for them to go back to the shelter to be put up for adoption I would have had no problem giving them back. But....since I only had one, I just couldn't do it and decided to adopt him myself. Simon was weighed by the vet the day I got him 800mg, if I remember correctly. Just last month, he was weighed by the vet again. He weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs, 6 oz!! In fact, the vet took him off the scale to reset it and weigh him again because he couldn't believe what he was seeing. Sure enough....it was right. I think it's safe to say that I have an even bigger boy on my hands than I do with Mason. In fact, between the two, I think I might have the Maine Coon I've always wanted. It just took two cats to make the one! LOL.
As you probably have guessed, my cats mean the world to me! I just hope the feeling is mutual! LOL.
