Hello everyone :D I'm 19 and from Ohio in the United States.

It's been an ongoing inner-monologue; whether to get a dog or a cat, once I've moved out, and I believe that I have decided on a cat :D What breed exactly I am looking for is still somewhat in the air and in all honesty I will most likely just go to a shelter and adopt, realistically probably thirty... Haha

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know all of you and hear what you have to say about kitties :)

Hi MattJnz and welcome to TCS!

Going for a rescue cat (or two) is a great idea.  Hopefully you'll be moving somewhere that is fine about having feline friends around.

There is so much info on this site to help you to help them settle in.. have a cruise around.

And let us know what you decide.. We'll want pics!!

A shelter cat or two is a great idea (says the shelter volunteer). Ask all the questions you can think of, and carefully consider any advice we might offer. If you walked into our shelter, I can almost guarantee you finding a good match. Kitten season, the hardest time of the year is just starting.

If at all possible consider two! They keep each other company, have a playmate, and are truly no more trouble or work then one. Rescue is the way to go. If I get another rescue cat it will be an adult too, kittens are a LOT of work and I prefer the calmness of an adult. Cats are great, they can be left when you are working, and no walking them when it's raining outside! Good luck!

Thanks for the welcomes everyone :D And I probably will end up getting a rescue kitty and it will probably be an adult haha I'd be too afraid of getting a kitten and not being able to adequately care for it (or at least the amount of attention I should give it).

As I said, I'm stuck between a few breeds to look into and for all intensive purposes get an idea of the type of cat I'd want to get from a shelter (i.e. what the parents were or what they think the cat is, etc) any particular place I should post to see the opinions of the members here on certain breeds? Or a pro-con list :O haha

But again thanks for the welcomes!

Welcome to the site! :wavey:

Adopting a kitty is a great idea. Personally I would not focus on a breed, but the cats personality and how they react to you. I am sure if you go through the shelter there is bound to be at least one cat that you fall for.

Welcome to TCS!
I agree. Most cats are mixed domestic "breeds" anyway.(called moggies)  You aren't likely to find  pure breed in a shelter. Pure breeds are usually an expensive purchase from a breeder.  As CatNamedPanda said, focus more on who you connect with, & connects w/ you.  Maybe even visiting more than once to figure/feel this out.
Good luck, & yes, Mani is right, we love pictures around here!!
