Hi.  We're wondering what's going on with our cat, Chauncy Mittens.  Any advice?

He's otherwise a fast moving stealthy cat who runs and plays as of 2 weeks ago.

Here he is stuggling to walk in 2 videos.  For the squeamish, it's not difficult to watch (unless you know him).

To my eye, it appears that his leg may have been injured somehow.  Either that, or perhaps he's having trouble with arthritis?  How old is he?  Our older one, who is nearly 12, started to have issues walking up the stairs last year sort of out of the blue.  A few months back, he had a few days where it seemed one of his front paws was bothering him, but that went away.

Even though Chauncy is a bad "vet-goer" it would be best to bring him in for a look over.  If either of our two kitties was walking like that, and behaving that way for more than a day or so, I know I would.

Sending good vibes your way

Here's the timeline,

DAY 1 he was fine,  we took him to the vet for rabies and other vax,  he came home, was fine for about 7 days,

DAY 7 --then started acting sleepy and snoozy,  not as active. Our friend asked if he was off balance even before I noticed it.  But he was kinda drifting around, then  he stopped playing.  And then one day,  barely moved.  Went back to the vet immediately,  and got antibiotics/anti inflam and he seemed to perk up, 50% better,  but by afternoon, he was low.  Lethargic again.

DAYS 8-9 --- We got oral antibiotics for 2 days, and both treatments he seemed to perk up after a few hours, and then after a few hours, he'd be low again. (Saturday and sunday)

DAY 10- 11 Yesterday was terrible, he'd rather not move. Today,  he went back to the vet and he's almost motionless.  Not really using the litterbox except to pee 1 time.

Now we're freaked out.

Try feeling his legs to see if he flinchs to rule out a leg injury first. I had a kitten that started having difficulty walking around she kinda looked drunk then it progressed into being unable to lift her back leg. That was a lethal feline virus but that would have shown in bloodwork. The only other thing I can think of is he may have eaten something. One of my cats was perfectly fine at midnight then when we found her at 5 am she could barely move. Thankfully we got her to the vet within the hour or wed have lost her. Shed gotten into something and was in full blown shock. Keep a real close eye on him and pay attention to his temperature if it starts to get low or he gets worse in anyway call the vet. Better safe than sorry its scary how fast they can crash. Keep us updated *fingers crossed*

It's 99.9% not a leg injury or a foot injury.

He may have low blood sugar try rubbing a tiny bit of honey on his gums and see if he perks up

In that last video I can see his back toes spread out if I am seeing that correctly. I am so very sorry. It seems to me that he is very uncomfortable. That is not a leg or foot injury and it is has nothing to do with "where" the injections were given. It looks almost total body and he is very uncomfortable in wanting to move. I would be very concerned that this was due to the rabies vaccine and "other" vaccines, which were what exactly???? I would encourage you to take this cat to a different vet asap to get to the bottom of this. Gather up ALL of your medical records/tests that you have done in the last week from your vet. They should not give you any trouble giving you those copies as you paid for them, they are yours. I always get copies of everything for my files anyway. Find out exactly which manufacturer the vaccines were from. Again, so sorry about your cats condition. I am sending mega, mega vibes and please keep us updated. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

It's the best possible vet around.  I have complete faith that we're at the right place.

Did the vet xray his spine? Sometimes herniated discs can present with those kind of symptoms.  Also hypokalemia can cause severe weakness in the limbs, especially the hind legs.

He's a bit better, thanks everyone.  We dont have him stable yet, but he did run in the yard.  Yes, his shot was in a leg, but all legs got wobbly for a while.   I do think it's shot related.  Makes me wonder if it was worth it.  He has had a terrible 2-3 weeks.

I really do appreciate all your advice and help.  Thanks.

 Hi There

Has he been checked for "crystal"? Male feline a notorious for that. Has he been p/p without straining? Healing prayers and love to all

Hi there

Sorry for necro-ing this thread - but our kitty is experiencing similiar symptoms, and the vet seems to be unsure about the cause.

Veeto presented with hind leg problems about 2 weeks ago - no pain, just a kind of "discomfort" when jumping.

Vet administered cortisone and antibiotics, which seemed to assist until a week later when the symptoms returned with a vengeance.

At the moment he is with the vet, and has been since Tuesday. He has shallow, rapid breathing, and can't seem to sit up at all. He appears "weak" more than paralysed - he has sensation, and will move his legs etc when tickled. He has been on a potassium IV for 2 days now.

Bloodwork and spinal fluid cam back negative.

What was your kitty's diagnosis? And did they recover fully?

Thanks in advance - I am worried to death.
